~~SNOWMAGEDON 2014~~

A major winter storm is approaching KC, (and a big portion of the midwest). How are you preparing?

Next to what's for lunch, snow storm talk is the biggest hype train at my work. Someone will mention the possibility of flakes 2 days before it's supposed to hit and by the day before, people are in a full blown panic. Same thing happens when someone walks in with a McGriddle at 8:00, by 10:30 people have mapped out routes to get them to and from the Cheesecake Factory in 45 minutes.

PROTIP #2 - Buy a snowblower, even if you only have to use it a couple times a season.

I bet all of the managers wanted to kill themselves or their employees. Or both.

Both, most likely. Us first, of course.

It doesn't help when the news is advising people to keep a stocked pantry and a hollowed out deer carcass in their Kia for the trek from Lenexa to Olathe.

Yeah, the hype is clearly media driven. Most people suck at making any sort of conversation, so weather bullshit is an easy topic. Combine that with media chatter hype and you're going to have mass hysteria that ends in soccer moms knee-capping each other for that last loaf of Sara Lee.

Bottom line - driving I-35 from 67th Street to Gardner is about three levels above being in the movie The Road Warrior. But I digress.

Late Monday night I hit a Hy-Vee on the way home before the weather hit (talking like 2am). There was some asleep woman in there looking for bread - buns in particular - where there was none to be found. She grabs a package of English Muffins and kind of mutters "He can put his ****ing hot dogs on these." I got a decent laugh out of that.

Last night on the news they were talking with a roof expert saying that you need to hire a professional to get the snow off your roof- or get a ladder and broom to sweep it off.

I can picture little old ladies on ladders today thinking their roof is going to cave in-lol

Pussy move or no, my sister has established that she will not come in to work on bad snow days.

Last year's big snow, she went in, they closed the shop and sent everyone home 1/2 later, wouldn't pay them for the day. Then, returning home she got high centered. Took 4 1/2 hours to get unstuck, and cracked a motor mount rocking the car back and forth while in drive.

I debated buying one this year, because like you said, it's something you might use 1 or 2 times per year on average... but, damn it's nice to have one when you need it.

I stayed home Tuesday, school was called and someone had to stay with MiniRadar. Or at least that’s the excuse I used. I could have easily dropped him off with Mrs. Radar’s parents. In fact when I picked him up from their house Monday after work they told me exactly that, to drop him off with them. I said, “Screw that, if he’s getting a snow day I want one too.”

Yeah, and I'm sure you all had a good time. Nothing wrong with that. But the snow-storm of the century didn't force you to bunker down in your home and pray for relief.

It was just a decent amount of snow that accrued over a long period. This storm didn't have shit on the one in Feb or March of last year where we got 8 inches in like four hours. Now that was some white-out bullshit. And I don't even think it had a name.

Sure, I've been through much worse storms here.
