If Mark Sanchez was drafted by the Chiefs where there is less media pressure, less expectations, etc... he could've possibly been a much better QB.
We will never know.

The point of all of this is: Other teams TRY the latest working model, and that is drafting and developing your franchise QB. The Chiefs continue to trade for other teams QB's that they are willing to part with. That said, I won't be a hypocrite and say that it will NEVER work, because like I mentioned above... different situations can call for different outcomes. However; the chiefs are going against the trends and it's not even close to working... when are they going to finally do what championship teams do?
make the obvious one too. Who would aaron rodgers be if he had gone number one?

It still falls back on the player to make the most out of his path. Elite players will find ways to win regardless of the situation.
Do I expect Geno Smith to play at an Elite level regardless of the team he was drafted on? Yes. Even though his team, coaches, and front office might be in transition from teh suck... it's his job along with the rest of his teammates to get to work and win. Can we say Geno would have an easier path if he would've went to another franchise? Sure, but life isn't fair and he is still going to get a chance to prove himself. Good QB's elevate the players around them. I expect Geno to form a chemistry with a WR or two on the current Jets roster, and I expect them to break out into stars. The same thing Tom Brady does with every WR on his roster. The same thing Peyton Manning has done for his WR's.

I was with you until that one. His wr's have always been the types of receivers that fit him. Smart possession receivers. There wasnt a significant drop off for reggie wayne from Andrew Luck to Peyton Manning. For christ sakes, Eric Decker had 8 tds from tim tebow.....lol. Just a mini rant. Peyton manning from day one, (he is great, i love watching him play) but he has been surrounded by talent from DAY ONE.

What I'm saying is that if Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne didn't get along in the locker room, or for whatever reason there wasn't ever Chemistry there... Reggie Wayne wouldn't be getting the ball thrown to him, and we may never know what kind of player Reggie Wayne was.

It's the QB's job to develop a relationship with his receivers, throw them the ball, and give them a chance to show the world that they can do what it takes. It's easy to say a WR sucks... but in truth that WR may be a talented mofo that just couldn't build any chemistry with his QB. (Jon Baldwin I hope?)

I Expect Geno Smith to be a leader, develop chemistry with his WR's, and make his surrounding cast stars.... the same thing he did with Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey at WV. He fed them the ball with great accuracy. If Geno Smith sucked and was launching balls like Matt Cassel, nobody would know who the hell Bailey and Austin are.

True Fan "logic" never fails to be laughable.

Geno texts on his phone = "too risky, bust, glad we don't have him"

Alex Smith compiles YEARS of proven sub-mediocrity, gets benched for a parade of scrub quarterbacks, watches his backup lead their team to the Super Bowl, and is a mentally fragile bitch = "So glad we traded for him!"

The blind Geno haters on here remind me of all the Charger fans who spent years blindly defending AJ and Norv just because they were associated with the Chargers. Dumb "logic" like this from far-too-easily-pleased True Fans allows franchises to justify charging everyone else a premium for mediocrity.

that was a pretty good point that was made

but I'm pretty sure a few times (like Matt Ryan) if we REALLY wanted to...we could have traded up from 5 to 3 to take Ryan

I'd take him over the combination of Poe and Allen or Stephenson.

It seems Geno was made more than he is, by his receivers, not the other way around.

He did a lot of dumping balls off while the receivers created YAC inflating his numbers.

If it's true that Geno has a bit of an attitude problem (and there's a lot of smoke leading you to believe it's a bigger problem than we thought), then I really don't care if we passed him up. I was all about grabbing him at 1.1. But it's pretty amazing how stuck people are on trying to defend the guy. There's plenty of smoke that leads you to believe maybe he's not the character guy we thought he was.

Maybe the Jets will bring in Terrell Owens. By mid-season would should hear quite a bit about Geno.
