*** Official 2014 AL Champion Royals Off-season Repository ***

So, I didn't see a thread started, and all the others are pretty maxed out to the point where a fresh thread would be needed soon either way.

Time to share the run up to ST & and another memorable year in the making!

I'm glad this thread is taking off. No offense at all to Our Chiefs Win as I had zero issue with the other one. Just glad the reminder is off the front page and the beautiful title of AL Champion Royals is on it. I wasn't in the game threads all last year. My baseball soul had been crushed. It's rekindled, and I'm looking forward very much so to 2015. Thanks for adopting me and all the others, and allowing us to enjoy all of it with the rest of you diehards. It's a great time to be a Royals fan!

We are not signing Lester. He's getting at least around 6/130, probably more.

Even for Dayton, he's been really aggressive. I like it. At least if we signed him we wouldn't have to face Lester anymore.

In reality though, even though we won't sign the guy... to at least be in the conversation shows what winning can do, and more importantly how much pitchers would like to work in front of this defense.

Also, it should be noted Lester and Yost have a good relationship. That probably has something to do with it. But it'll still come down to money.

Quote:
Ned Yost, Jon Lester rivals on field, neighbors off it
October 29, 2014, 5:00 pm

KANSAS CITY -- It turns out the Wild Card game between the A’s and Royals was a battle of friendly neighbors.

A’s left-hander Jon Lester, who started that do-or-die game for Oakland, owns a farm in Georgia just down the road from Royals manager Ned Yost.

“We’ll get together when we get home,” Yost said before Wednesday’s Game 7 World Series contest against the Giants. “His farm’s about a half a mile from mine.”

The two occasionally go hunting together in the offseason, and they share a groundskeeper who does work on each of their properties. As the postseason was drawing near, Yost’s wife, Deborah, called the groundskeeper about getting some work done on the Yost farm.

The only problem was, Lester also wanted work done on his property, and both he and Yost were hoping to get it done before they returned home for the offseason.

“Right before the Wild Card game, I called Larry (the groundskeeper) and said, ‘Look, you can take your time on mine. But you better hurry up on Jon’s,’” Yost said with a laugh. “That was wishful thinking, and luckily it worked out.”

Here's the article:

http://www.foxsports.com/kansas-city...-agents-111414

The one highlight of note:
"Lester is expected to command a multi-year contract in the $120 million range, seemingly well out of the Royals' financial reach.
But as one rival executive said this week, "(The Royals) aren't being shy."

Obviously we aren't going to sign Lester. But at least we aren't acting like the little sisters of the poor. That's my take from this.

We should be taking that $100m in dream $ and spending it all in our young core, Salvy/Cain/esk/Ventura. Even extending Gordon a year or two. I do wonder how these guys would feel playing for cheap $, getting the franchise to the WS, then seeing some 24 yr old Cuban make more than them COMBINED

Socialism in MLB works based on the equivalence of playing time. That's my advice anyway to Dayton.

I'd hate to be positive, but why even kick the tires is you have a ball park idea of what the car might cost?

That makes for an interesting question though. Would you rather have Santana/Holland or Lester. Lester would cost a bit more than those two, but it's getting close.
