The new strat to beat the Chiefs is to simply throw it up and watch their WR's either run under it or outplay our DB's on the ball.

Knowing that, it's easy to see why our DC is reluctant to blitz and leave those guys on an island.

Imo, THAT is why our D is struggling.
Or they get flagged for PI, which is just as good. Sure the opposing QB's may take a couple INT's, but the risk/reward is simply too tempting with how weak this secondary is.

We didnt deliberately cost ourselves the #1 overall seed so we could unveil our super sneaky defense on the road for all three games.

Come on, man.

That is not what I am implying, we flat out got beat by a better QB in the Denver games - San Diego was a fluke mostly because we had 3 starters out on defense

I like the Milkman theory. These guys are just gassed because they have played so many downs. Especially Poe who has fallen off.

Sorry, that's probably not as sexy a theory.

I think it is a great theory but I still can't buy into releasing healthy defensive players in favor of offensive players if the defense needs fresh bodies

When the defense was applying consistent pressure, these DBs were getting the job done.

As the playmakers in the front 7 wore down, QBs and receivers have been getting the time to make plays.

Flowers and Smith are getting burned as consistently as Cooper.
Cooper was just as easy scapegoat.

Neither of them are getting burnt nearly as much as Cooper. How could you say that with a straight face?

I agree that they aren't getting pressure that they use to, but hell, look at the 3 games they lost....the QB's were getting the ball out so fast that the Pass rush didn't even have time to get to them.

The first Denver game was unreal. I remember seeing Houston getting a clean shot at Manning and he STILL got the ball out before he could get there.

No they aren't, because Cooper is being targeted more.
He's a rook, teams are more inclined to do that.

But if we were to look at percentages, both Flowers and Smith would be getting burned at the same rate compared to targets.

I completely respect your football opinions, but don't you think there is something a little more to it?

There is more, such as teams recognizing Lewis as the real weak link, but the lack of pressure due to fatigue is the primary reason.

And your friend is wrong.

This defense has been blitzing more, overall, since the bye than before.

On a side note, anyone see that 3rd and 1 yesterday when both Jackson and Devito came off the field? WTF?

...then Oak got a false start...so it didn't matter but.....why in the hell would you take Devito and Jackson out of the game on a 3rd and 1?

Sutton has made some questionable calls every game so far. He looks smart when they work. When they don't.....well......

The secondary is struggling because they need to cover in front and behind the receivers.

Nobody trusts the POS Lewis to protect the deep ball. He has screwed everyone multiple times.
