He was a much better person than a ball player. Countless years of charity work. Received the nations highest civilian honor. They don't make em like that anymore.

Willie Mays said on several occasions that Stan the Man was the first white player to make him feel welcome in the All Star game locker room. Trivia bit........... Stan the Man went to high school with Ken Griffey Jr.'s grandfather.

Like Buck O"Neil, he represented his city as a great baseball ambassador, and was a kind and beloved man. Best wishes to all the Cardinal fans from a life long Royals fan. He was a great man, and a great ball player.

I seriously thought Stan the Man was already gone. One of the few St. Louis Cardinals I liked.

My dad actually got to see him play in person several times. He had tickets to the 1948 World Series but the Cards fell a little short. No fault of the Man who hit .376 with 39 HR and 131 RBI. Musial lost the triple crown when a game he hit a homer in was rained out before it became official.
When he came to Cedar Rapids when we had a Cardinal franchise I got my dad's last program autographed for him.
