Heartbreaking and very upsetting story

To anyone that is a parent this would be very devasting Im a very proud father of my kids and when I read this story and saw the boys picture my heart broke Especially considering the guy that killed him had 16 prior arrests

Keep his family in your prayers

Not my job. I build things and fly people to a location of their choice.

I would think that 16 times would be a little on the high side, though.

We don't live in the Minority Report world, thank god. We can't just go around punishing people for crimes they may or may not commit. So if all the dude did was drive illegally 16 times, what are we supposed to do with that? Say "Oh, Mr. Illegal Driver, we know that you're about to kill a kid next week, so we're going to lock you up for a few days."

It's so easy for you to sit back behind your little computer screen and say that he should be "dispatched". What a cute little euphemism. Will you be the one to flip the switch?

And what about you? Ever driven after having a beer? Maybe two? What if you crashed in to a car and killed someone? Should you be dispatched as well?
Eh, I understand what you're trying to say, but your comparison of one or two beers to this guy is ridiculous.

Yeah, that wasn't what I would call: "a brilliant comparison"

Seriously, our justice system is absolute crap.

There has to be some kind of in between. I mean, driving on a suspended license doesn't sound that awful. And as the comment in the article suggest, most offenders in this category aren't going to hurt someone. But obviously this guy was a danger to society.

The real question should be why wasn't this guy prosecuted for DUI? Surely they found something in him on some of those 16 times.

Oh ya, without a doubt my post was overboard on the "dispatch" part.

Put him in jail for a decent amount of time for the 2nd offense, at the very least.

After 3, life. Don't **** around, if people know the punishment, maybe they won't be so quick to hop behind the wheel. If they do, they knew the rules ahead of time.

How many innocent lives would be saved if the punishment is stiffer?

Under normal circumstances I'd think you're kind of ****ing reeruned if you think driving without a license deserves life in jail but since everyone is emotional from having just read this story I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt.

If the guy has a ton of DUI convictions it's different, but I notice that the article doesn't say that and I'm sure it would have.

Three weeks ago, police again encountered Dunlap when they saw him interacting with a suspected drug dealer in a parking lot. Officers followed Dunlap, who allegedly sped away from them, running red lights and forcing “innocent pedestrians to jump out of the way to avoid being hit,” according to police reports.

Dunlap eventually pulled over and ran from the SUV, but officers arrested him. He reportedly said he fled because he had outstanding warrants. The warrants were for failing to appear in court on four driving-while-revoked cases.
Is this the dude who was driving the red jeep through everybodys yards, and then down the interstate the wrong direction for several miles?

Jidar, you are correct, I just assumed they were tied to DUI's.

My mistake.

Reading comprehension is not my friend this morning.

Except for the 3, count em' 3 times in the prior year being caught driving under the influence of PCP.

VARSITY
The woman was an English teacher at Van Horn High, the kid was a 6th grade student at Nowlin Middle School, both in my neighborhood. I'm a Van Horn grad and live in this area. This dirtball ought to get the death penalty. This is a textbook example of using a car as a deadly weapon. And shame on the judges who put this douche on the street 16 times. Unbelievable.

In my world that guy would have been dead after the first 5 times. The justice system is a complete joke and if you can't see that then you are very naive and ignorant.
