For the lib whose name escapes me, who argued at length about Gore's service and Bush's lack of same.

Gore spent less than five months of a typical twelve-month tour in Vietnam. He spent every minute of his "tour" as a "rear-echelon member"

He was assigned as a noncombatant information specialist" to the Army's 20th Engineers Brigade headquarters at Bien Hoa military base near Saigon.

Gore's immediate supervisor in Vietnam has confirmed that his posting there came with explicit instructions to baby-sit him and make sure he was never in any danger. That fact notwithstanding, Gore has claimed to the Washington Post that he was "shot at" and "spent most of my time in the field." He later told the Baltimore Sun that "[I] pulled
my turn on the perimeter at night and walked through the elephant grass and I was fired upon."

On May 22, 1971, not five months into his "tour of duty," Gore was given special dispensation and a one-way ticket home to attend divinity school in Nashville. He dropped out of Vanderbilt shortly thereafter.

So much for Algore's military career.

There will come a time in the future when neither candidate was iun Vietnam, or any for for that matter. What will we complain about then. Gore lied about his actions in Vietnam so the argument is Bush Sr. deserted his men in WWII. Great argument!!! I think Barbara can beat up Tipper too!!!!!!!!

And exactly what proof do you require Clint? His direct superior confirmed Gore's duty assignment. The fact that he was an 'information specialist' could probably be confirmed in Army records.

BTW: What proof do you have that Bush Sr. abandoned anyone?

I just love how the Dems posit George Dubya as nothing more than a daddy's boy. This from the party that reveres the "Kennedy legacy" as American royalty.

JFK was quoted as stating - "I just received the following wire from my generous Daddy [Joseph P. Kennedy] -- 'Dear Jack. Don't buy a single vote more than necessary. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay for a landslide.'"

Doesn't AlGore have an influental daddy too?

Besides, what's wrong with having knowledgable parentage or relatives? John Adams to John Quincy Adams. FDR claimed relation to 11 other Chief Execs. There are other excellent second and third generation public servants at the state and local level, far to many to mention.
