Bucs fire their DC

Mike Smith - C - Free Agent

Bucs fired DC Mike Smith.
LBs coach Mark Duffner is expected to take Smith's place. Smith is the first scapegoat for the collapsing Dirk Koetter regime, though a richly deserving one. Running antiquated, vanilla schemes, Smith's defense was getting gutted for 440 yards per game, a number that would be by far the worst in the league if not for the Chiefs. Smith's unit wasn't good in 2017, either, and it's fair to question why he was brought back in the first place. The game has passed Smith by.

Yep.

Token PR move. Not real change.

This is irrelevant. So a badly run franchise makes a good decision and immediately makes another bad one (maybe due to lack of options).

We need to make the right call, and hopefully another right one after that - who knows who the best guy is? Just because Sutton sucks ass, doesn't mean every position coach is bad. They ultimately don't have any control right now. And as I keep saying, it cannot get any worse. Fire Sutton and promote the video coach, who gives a ****.

There's absolutely zero logic in what you just posted.

You're making an emotional judgement, not a rational one.

For example, a badly run franchise doesn't make good decisions. Hiring a terrible replacement points to the fact that firing the DC in the first place wasn't a "good" decision, it was a token one. And it obviously worked because fans of other teams think they did the right thing.

And you do realize that saying the position coaches don't have any control is absolutely ironic.

I dont think Andy will fire Sutton but it does make me think about something.
Andy has had many Offensive coordinators go on to become head coaches, seemingly an endless stream of talented people. Andy has connections all around the league. Why is it the defensive side of things is so bad? Where are the up and comers on that side?
We seem to be able to replace offensive coordinators without missing a beat but Sutton, currently fielding the worst Defense in the league by a wide margin is irreplaceable.

Because Andy doesn't care about the defense. He's always been hands-off with the defense.
