Is Allen worth it?

Jared Allen’s place in NFL (financial) history
April 23rd, 2008 – 7:57 AM by Kevin Seifert

Based on some very preliminary research this morning, it appears that new Vikings DE Jared Allen is the NFL’s third-highest paid active player and the fourth-highest in league history.

If you use guaranteed money as a benchmark, then there are only two players whose contracts guarantee more than the $31,000,0069 in Allen’s deal. Both of them are quarterbacks: Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger, whose recent contract extension guarantees him $36 million, and Indianapolis’ Peyton Manning, who was guaranteed $34.5 million in 2004.

The NFL record, we believe, is the $37 million the Atlanta Falcons guaranteed QB Michael Vick in 2005.

He is now the highest paid defensive player in NFL history, according to them.

We've never had the opportunity to draft this many kickers in one weekend ever.

Time will tell whether it was worth it for Minnesota. With the defensive line he'll have around him up there, he should be a monster.

From the Chiefs' perspective, I don't think that would have been a good contract at all. If it's Jared and that contract versus the picks, then I think we did the right thing.

I am happy with the trade, he wanted to go, and we got a great value out of him. I'm not happy he left but we do have a lot of needs elsewhere that we can *attempt* to fill

only bummer is now we have to spend one of those picks on a DE.

Your right..we should never have any player worth a shit because one injury and they might never be the same
