You have to line up in the right place, and run the right routes, before you can make an impact.
The better question might be, why do we have someone on our team that can't line up correctly and run the right routes, instead of a veteran who could. |

1. Richard Smith did not see any balls thrown his way until it was fairly obvious were not running the ball so Carolina had something like 8 DB's on the field.
![]() 2. Of the two balls I saw thrown to Smith one would have been an very good catch considering that he got pummeled by the DB at almost exactly the same moment that the ball got to him, and the other would have been a circus catch. So I would not say he “Puked all over himself” by dropping those two.......I don't think there are many receivers in the NFL who would have caught those two passes. 3. Dante Hall should be on the field as much as possible. I do not agree with "saving" him for returns. 4. This Team cannot win by playing Martyball we just do not have the Horses on defense for that. 4th & short inside the 40 = go for it! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm not saying Richard Smith IS that guy, but he COULD be the one guy if develops. I really wouldn't want to give up on him after his first NFL action.
I guess if he had made 1 spectacular catch in his first game (ala Snoop Minnis) we could proclaim him The Savior. ![]()

I don't think that Smith will be the answer. I met him on Saturday and though I am sure that he is fast, he is also very small. I would say 5'8-9" and 170-180lbs. He was smaller than me & I told FDE that I could level him. I just don't think he will get off the line much or be able to withstand an NFL pounding after catching the ball. I hope i'm wrong.

I'll admit the second pass thrown to Smith was not very catchable.
He did appear to short arm it. He shoulda had the first one. You're gonna get hit anyway. Catch the damn ball. But, there's more to playing WR for the Chiefs than catching the ball. Blocking, running proper routes to clear areas. Little things he still needs to learn. Smith has the opportunity of a lifetime right in front of him. I hope he runs with it. ![]() He sure didn't show much last Sunday, though. |

Sad, but possibly true...
It is a shocking commentary on the state of our Offense that Smith might truly be the only shot we have to improve. It’s not like we have that many players we can throw into the fray. Blaylock and Johnson are the only ones I can think of. And it is unlikely that either of them would be an upgrade over Holmes. xoxo~ Gaz Getting bummed. |

Personally, I think we are being a bit unrealistic by hoping Smith will be the savior of our team this season - also how losing Wilson was a devestating blow to us. These guys are rookies - Smith is an undrafted rookie. I'll be happy if he is able to contribute from time to time. FWIW, Jr has shown me more so far than either of these two (nothing against them, but Jr has actually stepped out in PS and the first 2 weeks and made contributions) but I don't think even he can be considered the guy that can turn things around this year.
I'm not saying that any of these players won't be go to people in thr future, I just think that to place that much hope in them this year is a little much to expect. There are several people here that are capable of standing up and making the difference needed. There's a half a dozen guys out there on D that are veterans and SHOULD be stepping up - Barber, Woods, Wesley, Browning, Hicks, Dalton, McCleon - and even Sims (who is still playing like 5th round draft pick at times). None of these guys has even began to step up and show some attitude or leadership. Offensively, first and formost, Al Saunders needs to use the players he has and quit trying to call plays for the St Louis offense. If Priest has said he's not willing to take part in catching passes (I have not heard him say this, but I have heard a lot of speculation from others) then I have to question whether he is really thinking about the team's best interest or his name in the books. If the team needs him to catch balls to win, he needs to catch balls. Trent needs to check off the covered recievers and proceed through his progressions. If no one is open, throw it away. Both Tackles need to step up - jeesh Roaf your a career PBowler, show some pride out there and knock some defenders on their tails. Gonzo, call Carl Malone and ask him to teach you how to flop and get the call. Then when someone grabs a hold of you, you can do like Carl, flop, and draw the flag. These veterans are the ones that need to step up, if they don't then we need to let them compete for their jobs - if the backups win, they get to start.
