Free agents(would they consider the chiefs)

My wife and I were discussing the thread about CP saying he would go after free agents this year.

we came to the question of Would free agents conider the chiefs.I mean quality top tier free agents.

not because of money or cp or the horrid defense, but because of the coaching situation.DV has said he will be back next year, but what about after that.Would they inform the players ahead of time about Dv's replacment if they knew.(as in Saunder)

Ive heard players before say they like stability before they sign a long contract. The chiefs dont have that after next year. With CP and Dv's contracts running out and Mr. Hunt getting up there in age.

Can we get a few top tier F/A even if CP is willing to pay.

IMHO, the Chiefs are only a few pieces away from being REALLY good. This despite the fact that the AFC is BRUTAL. If I were a premier defensive free agent, and I thought CP and DV were commtted to upgrading the defense in order to complement the offense and win a title, I'd definitely be interested in going to KC.
That's exactly what I was trying to say. With the way this offense scores points, defensive players will be interested. Carl's job will be two fold:

1) Put a competitive offer on the table
2) Convince them that he is committed to signing other players.

The belief around the league is that this defense is not 1 player away, so can't play the ego card. But we can play the "1 of the many improvements card"

So I guess in your eyes, we might as well just stop going to the games cause they can't win. Show them our bitterness and disappointment. Lets show them that were not good sports. then they'll get the message right? So eventually within time they'll lose money, file for bankruptcy, can't afford to sign anybody, nor be able to maintain the competitiveness of Kansas City Chiefs football.
If they suck, us as fans should not go to the games and give them money, so that way they stay sucky, in your opinion right? why get better, after all there not rewarding us, but, rather trying to cheat us. If we followed your concept, there wouldn't be football in Kansas City.

Any FA would come to the Chiefs if the price was right! Some may come as a Defensive player knowing the Offense and Special Teams are SB level already.

ok we have established the money and win factors, what about the lame duck coach factor.will someone come here and sign a long term contract with a coach and GM and not know who they will be playing for and what system they will be playing in.most players want a system they will flourish in.(ie priest coming in from Baltimore). All they get from DV and Carl is a one year promise.

I don't think CP and Lamar are only concerned with filling the seats. They have shown they want to win by hiring DV, AS and bringing in Gunther. Yeah, the Gun couldn't make filet mignon out of hamburger meat, but I do think the Chiefs Organization wants to win as much as anyone else. CP has brought in a good number of guys who have made this team one of the best offenses in the league. Just look at where some of these starters came from. Some are disappointing, but that happens to every team. I do believe he made a mistake by not signing a FA DE, MLB and CB and I think he knows that too. We'll see what happens over the next 6 months.

I honestly don't think who is coach would be much of a a factor. Not a significant factor anyway. These players have been in the pros awhile if they are free agents and know that likely the coach will change, on average 7 to 8 a year so every club on average changes coaches once every 4 years.

If they had done nothing after last years debacle in the playoffs the sellouts would not have been guaranteed. This year they know they have to make a couple of player changes or again the seats might not be full. So they will do the minimum required to keep those seats full while being able to raise prices.

thanks vlad, great point, you've put me at ease at least a little.

I was worried we would not end up with any quality players this year.I know carl and Mr hunt dont like to fork over the cash, so the one other selling points of the organization is DV.

Have not read through the thread, the answer is yes. Players don't care about any thing more than money. Lay out the tallest stack and they are in front of the camera spewing they love the fans, the great tradition and so on. Now when players age they will go somewhere for a chance at the ring. They could give a shit about the coach the record or anything else. Pay the money and you will hear "I have always wanted to play for the (enter team name with tallest stack)"

I do agree with this, but anyone that believes the Chiefs are going to offer the largest amount of money is seriously deluded.

I disagree.
I think winning is important to the team.
I just don't think that winning at any cost is important.

They want to win, but they just want to do it on the cheap.

With that in mind, how could any FA ask for, and expect to get rediculous amounts of money from Lamar and Carl.

IMHO all this talk about the HMFIC not wanting to win a championship is total BS. They stand to reap a hell of a lot more rewards by winning a championship then by bein perrenial also rans. Shit Chiefs gear would be flying off the shelf all over the fugging country if they won the big one.

As far as FA go 2 criteria will get them to sign. Knowledge that this team is close to competing for the SB and like others have said a large stack of cash.

Now I agree that CP and Lamar are not the biggest free spenders in the league but all those large bonus's are a freaking huge gamble. And they are just like credit cards. Sooner or later that monthly payment is gonna get bigger than you can handle. I don't want to see this team go through 4 year of pure crap to get the salary cap back under control.

It can be done on the cheap as New England has demonstrated but you gotta be damn smart about the players you choose. Something this organization has failed miserably at in the last few years.

And that is the problem.

Carl's FA signings, like his drafts, haven't been very smart.

We have dumped a lot of cash on mistakes as well. 2 seasons ago we dumped a lot of cash on the likes of Holliday and Barber. 2 guys I thought would make a difference. I am not satisfied with either. Its a damn crap shoot.

Well I was 50/50 I hated the Holliday pickup but thought the Barber pickup would work out. Carl as usual can get the busts with the best of them.
