It is going to be tough for them this year, but there is so much talant on this team. I could see them having a 20 win season again. It just depends on how fast this team gels. Im going to say this. In the preseason games. I rate them like this. I only got to watch tonights game. Heard about the first.
Hawkins: B- (dont remember much about him) Robinson: A (looks a lot bigger, good unselfish player) Chalmers: A (hes gonna be a leader on this team, good overall player) Downs: C+ (good passer, very good passer) Kaun: C+ (free throws suck, acts goofy, but big body) Rush: B+ ( a playmaker, gonna be a stud) Wright: B- (didnt see much, looks like he can pass and shoot) Jackson: B- (didnt look to bad at all tonight) Giles: A (he should be a great player) Moody: B ( he gets a B, because he gets the job done) Overall: B |

Yea I know, its way to early to grade anyone now. Giles looked real good today, but it was a MIAA school. I guess we will see on Friday. I did notice how much bigger Robinson looked today. It looks like he is ready to be a leader on this team. |

Damn, I didn't even realize they were playing last night.

After seeing Rush in person, I don't see how you could keep him out of the starting lineup. Chalmers didn't play that well last night, but I'm sure he'll get better.
But I could see getting Kaun in there and bringing Moody off the bench If I had to guess, I would guess this to be Self's starting lineup friday: Hawkins Rush Moody Kaun Giles

my lineup looks like this Hawkins/Chalmers - PG - I honestly dont care either way, both have shot the ball decent from 3 in the 2 games and both have played decent defense, and are known for playing great defense. Chalmers is a better passes but Hawkins is the senior. who knows what self will do. Russ Rob - SG - More minutes then anyone else in preseason, starts both games, gotten praise all preseason from coaches. He may not be the scoring option you like at the 2 guard spot but he can pass really well, drive the lane well, and is an average shooter. if he plays under control and avoids the turnovers he can be special. above average defender here as well. B Rush - SF - Not real sure what to say. The man is going to be good. he has been really unselfish so far and scored within the offense. reminds me of a young paul pierce and i think he will be a stud. he is just to talented to leave off teh court for to long. CJ Giles - C/PF - he has the green light to shoot from 15 feet, and has shown a good shot. can block shots with the best of them, and has all the tools to be a star and make it to the next level. only thing hampering him from playing almost all game is foul trouble. he makes silly fouls and if he can cut it out he could be a real star Kaun/Wright/Moody/Jackson - I think our best lineup would include Kaun starting with CJ. thats alot of beef, alot of blocked shots, and hopefully alot of boards. only problem is they both foul to much so your dont want to start both incase they both get in foul trouble. you want to have both available for crunch time. self might go ahead and start one or the other until they both show they will stop making the stupid fouls. wright will get playing time here and as talented as he is, i think he struggles alot on defense against bigger number 4's. Jackson played well last night and if he plays like that he will be the nxt Jeff Graves, grabbing rebounds like crazy and getting some put backs. It is time for moody to go back to the bench Self has said he wants a 9 man lineup and i just dont think moody fits in. last year he just need to do the basics and no screw up because wayne carried the low post on his back. this year we need points from both spots, we need someone more athletic. self will have a hard time bringing it down to 9 guys and i think rodrick stewart will be given time when he becomes eligible. self might have to go with 10 but we will see Hawkins/Chalmers russel/ Stewart rush/downs giles/wright kaun/ jackson |
