If you're asking ChiefsPlanet if it's a good deal, it's not a good deal.

You should have done enough of your own homework to know if it's a good deal or not. Make the salesman call you back. Tell him when he's ready to sell at dealer invoice you'll come back in.

Thanks. He needs to come down on the price more.

Dealer invoice plus $800 in options puts it at around $19,660.

I think by waiting a week showing interest in the vehicle, haggling for at least an hour then walking out without buying, you can get them to come down at least another 1000 or throw in a 7 year 70,000 mile bumper to bumper extended warranty.

Not a horrible deal as is but you can do better.

By the way I believe you will regret owning a black vehicle, unless you like sitting in ovens and love washing cars.

I'd start my own thread, but you already have the attention of the car people here.

I will be looking for a new (or new to me) car in about a year. I like to start doing my research early, so I can narrow down my choices. I need to keep my payments around $250 or so (I could go up a little, but prefer not to), and I need something that won't cost too much to insure (I'm trying not to get any speeding tickets this year, so hopefully my insurance will go down a little in December). I would absolutely love to have a small SUV. Around the size of the Ford Escape. I REALLY like Jeep Cherokees, but I know I can't afford them. If it's a sedan, I want a 4-door. At least front wheel drive. Mid-sized. Something newer than a 2000. I don't want to go older than what I have now. Any suggestions?

I suggest you learn the phone number for the prosecutor's office and plead your tickets down to non-moving violations.

Seriously given you have budget constraints you should factor in gas mileage and assume a gas price around 3.50 a gallon (for a year from now) and then start figuring out what you want. You also left out how long you want to finance over 3,5 or 6 years that will make a difference as well.

I usually go for the 5 year financing. Also, while I like some "get up and go", I'm fine with a good 4 cylinder.

I thought it would cost too much at the time. Then I got another one. Then one more. Man, you pay for that in the long run.

I might start researching then based on vehicles that get 30+ mpg, you probably can get something newer with less miles and offset the higher monthly payment with significantly lowered fuel expenses for the month depending on how many miles a month you drive.

The most I've ever paid was double the face value. Well, except that one in Iowa when the $45 ticket cost something like $150 because they insisted I show up and I didn't want to, so I had to hire a lawyer to do it for me.

As for a "new" car, don't buy a freaking SUV. They don't have any more room than a station wagon, they just suck up more gas. Get yourself a nice Dodge Neon size vehicle that's a year or so old and drive it into the ground.

Invest in a radar detector. They aren't foolproof but they really help. I paid $300 for an Escort 30 years ago and I've had one ticket in that time.

My boss just got a Dodge Neon a few months ago. I really like it, but it's a little too small. I'm in a Contour right now. I like the size of it. It's considered mid-sized, right? I don't drive much compared to others. I'm about 8 miles from work, and 5 miles from anything else that I do. It took me about 5 months to go the 3000 miles between oil changes this time around.
