DTV sucks and my HD-DVR/receiver...

About 2-3 weeks ago we called and ordered an HD-DVR/receiver. They sent us the wrong one; they sent us the regular DVR. We sent it back, called and got put on a list to get the HD one...

We called them tonight after a week later. We found out we were NOT put on the list. So we have to wait another ****ing 2-3 weeks for the damn thing. We're thinking about cancelling. We said send us one now, we already waited 3 weeks for one. They said they would be bumping someone down the list. WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN BUMPED DOWN THE LIST, NOW THIS IS BUMP #2!!! Is there a way we can get one sent out right away? We've already served our time, this is not right. It's not good customer service. Is there anyone above the supervisor you can talk to? It's a bunch of shit, we are seriously thinking about cancelling.

Is Dish Network better?

I've had nothing but satisfaction with my Dishnetwork HD-DVR [the ViP622 mentioned above].
That is, after I got rid of all the substandard legacy cabling and splitters in my 'system' [R-6, crimped connections, and 2.4GHz splitters only, folks].
It's advertised as 2-tuner, but you can actually record 2 Satellite AND an OTA HD channels at the same time, AND watch something previously recorded.
I simply don't worry about what time anything is on anymore [except the Chiefs game, but that's because it's not always broadcast, so I gotta go to the pub]. Just click and see what's waiting for me to watch.
30 hours of HD, some 400 hours of SD, or a mix thereof.

I can flip through channels easily. Been with Dish since the nineties and never had a problem.

Don't know what your talking about. There are 4 ways to channel surf, the channel up.down buttons, push the 'forward button' and transparent channel listing comes up and you can use the channel up/down button to see what programs are on other channels without changing channels until you press enter, the program guide [that can be programmed to let you still see the active channel], and the 'Dish 500' channel that shows the feed for nine channels at a time.

Apparently this crap was half of my problem, except that I don't have the HD yet....installed 6 months ago, and its got "small cable" run and there were at least 3 splitters, one of which must have been bad.....for 2 TVs, 30' apart.

pffffffffft.

Must just be my moms model.
I guess it's new.
I saw the remote and there are no channel flipping buttons. She either has to use guide or manually press the number of the channel she wants.

The thing really sucks.
And she mentioned that if one of her T.V.s channels are changed that it might affect the one upstairs, etc. I don't know... maybe she doesn't know what she's talking about. Either way, I'd stay away from it if you have to have a BS in Dish Network to make it work.

Apperantly, there are some graduates here.

Isn't that a bit like saying 'the BMW 540il sucks,' then revealing that you test drove it with a flat tire?

Probably doesn't realize that the up/down buttons that surround the 'select' button operate as channel changers. The ones marked with the 'stop' and 'pause' symbols.
I guess it's undertandable as they aren't expressly denoted, but the first time one pushed the button while watching TV, it'd become obvious.

When I order it from thier salesman, and they deliver it, unload it put it in the garage, and give me the keys with teh bill.....I assume the tires are tank is full of gas, the oil is clean and full, and the air pressure is right.

I shouldn't have to know which muffler bearing and weight of blinker fluid it requires.

Just some lighthearted ribbing [hence the smilie]. But seriously, there is a difference between something sucking because it's an inferior product, and something sucking because something outside it's working parameters is causing it to mess up.
Did the installer put in the 'small cable' [I assume you're talking about R-59] and the 3 splitters, one of which wasn't working?

I'm not an electronics guru....Don't even know what the gibberish that sounds like the Birdflu HIV551.

I had digital cable, installer ran new cable from the garage where the dish was placed..and supposedly through the house(no big deal, full basement, easy access).

I'm assuming the installer suffered from an ID-10-T error.

I had dish for a year prior to Sept and it was great.

Granted, it wasn't HD but I thought the menus, remote, service, and function was flawless.

nothing wrong with Dish

I've had Dish Network for probably 7 yrs. Never a problem unless it rains really hard and it may be out for a couple of minutes. I don't have the HD package but have a DVR works great actually thinking about getting a bigger one. Seem's to me that Direct TV is the one that sux but I haven't used it and don't plan to. Good luck!
