Let's see:

It has allows downloads of iTunes OR proprietary mP3s.

It has a bigger color screen than the 30 gig iPod.

It has an FM Tuner.

So I took the dive....anyone else bought a Zune?

I know they are "new;" but with Microsoft behind them....I suspect/hope that they've done their homework.

I hadn't read much.

I had no intention of buying. Was "window shopping" the 30 gig iPod, with doubts...mostly not wanting to get locked into the iTunes thing.

Display said, "iTunes or mP3, FM tuner...." and has a larger color screen....I figured, WTF? It's only two nights of ENDelt's drinking money.

I'm playing my ZUNE right now and I love it. I really like the design and find it easier to scroll. I prefer the 3" screen over ipods' 2.5". If you own an ipod, stick with it. If you don't own either, compare before you buy. ipod has a lot more to offer in accessories, but all of that will most likely change in the near future.

For a straight up music player, I'm partial to the iRivers. Cost less, better performance in my opinion, better functionality, support more formats. I'm not so interested in watching video on a 2" portable screen. Now if I took public transportation for my commute I might be. Hell in that case I'd probably rather have a portable game player like a PSP or DS.

Doesn't iPod convert the MP3 files to the iTune format though?

you have a choice on the conversion.. mp3, apple lossless, AAC, AIFF, or WAV
