I got to where I could play it for hours on end with 1 quarter. The best I remember doing was 5 hours and quite because I got tired of playing and still have over a hundred men (spaceships) left.

Those were the days.

Maybe it ate up your quarters...I would go onto Fast Eddie's in Manhattan after lunch, stick in a quarter and play until 9pm when I would sell the game to a Ft Riley guy for $40 so he could play it until close at 2am. $40 would buy him 96000 health normally; he'd get the machine with over 500000 health after my playing it and consider himself lucky.

And that cartoon Dragon game (Dragon Slayer?) That ws IMPOSSIBLE. I remember it wa theforst video game that cost 50 cents. There was one at the local Chuck E. Cheese and there was one geek dude who could clear it. He would hang out by the game and charge people a buck (plus thay had to put the two quarters in) to finish the game so people could watch the cartoon all the way through.

There's a place out here in Fullerton like that called the Regan Years. We used to go there and stop at Taco Bell and get a 44 ounce drink, pour it out and put 3-1/2 beers in there and go in for a couple hours.

Dragon Slayer was a piece of cake.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

It's hard to find someone to work on them. I spent two weeks in San Diego and a week in Wichita learning to work on mine.

It's a good thing you had to plunk in one quarter at a time...one of the early 'continue' games that makers realized would suck quarters faster than anything.

First time I played Gauntlet, I went through 5 bucks in 30 minutes.
