Sorry, but my dad falls in the "loser" category as well. I hope he enjoys dying alone.

My father lost his position in my former Kingdom Hall because of me. I'm sure I'm going to hell.

Dad brought us kids up in a Christian home. We darkened the doors of our church every Sunday morning, evening and Wednesday night Bible study; even when us kids would rather stay home and watch "The Wonderful World of Disney" or "The Wizard of OZ" which never seemed to come on any other night but Sunday. He is a kind, caring and gentle soul; one who punished only as a last resort. I can remember him earnestly studying his Bible, and I pretending to study right along with him, but wasn't too busy to play a board game with us kids or just have a nice game of catch. We fished, camped, and every summer went on vacation somewhere in the Ozarks. I still have my dad who is now in his seventies and he's as active in church and in life as he ever was. I owe much of the "good" that is in me to my dad, and to him I extend a "Happy Fathers Day" dad!

My dad threw countless clays while I was learning to shoot. I would always go the trap park with my dad even though I wasn't all that into it. it was just a lot of fun to hang out with older kids and my dad. I remember that the gun, by itself, usually drew compliments from other father/son duos. Eventually, I got pretty good at trap. my best was 96/100 (no handicap) I never got close to that score again but my dad has bragging rights forever since, I was 11 y.o. at the time. it's kind of funny because my dad was a KTA champ in the 80's. He wont talk about his own accomplishments. Instead, he always changes the subject to the one time (freak occurrence) that I shot 96. dang it, now I'm getting all misty-eyed. I'm going to call my old man tomorrow.

I think the biggest thing my Dad showed me was how much you can change your life for the better. Before I was born he was a drunk, and the family secret is that my mom actually divorced him sometime after I was born. I don't remember any of that because he cleaned up his act and they got back together. I have a lot of great memories of my Dad from when I was young, but I also remember a terrible anger and that he was a bit of an asshole. He also smoked 3 packs a day. My mom died when I was 13, and my Dad really threw his whole heart and life into looking after us kids. When I came down with mono so bad I could barely breath and they put me on steroids to reduce the swelling in my tonsils, he quit smoking cold turkey. Today you'd never know he had an anger problem - he's the sweetest, kindest, gentlest grandpa you could meet. I was surprised once when he and I took a 'motivation' test and both had scored 'inner harmony' as our top goal. I'd like to think he's come a long way on that journey.

My Dad and Mom raised 6 kids. My Mom was a stay at home Mom. My Dad worked his ass off to make ends meet. He retired early from the Corp of Engineers because they wanted him to relocate. He didn't want to pull us all out of a good town and good schools. After he "retired" he took a job driving a truck for Sisco. He would drive from Springfield to KC and back 5 days a week. He had a bad back and this made his back worse. But he continued this until the 6th kid graduated High School. He is a really, really good man. I only hope I can be compared.
