View Poll Results: LJ walks into your office and wants $80 million over 8 years.
$80 million for 8 years? He’s worth it. Pay the man. 7 12.07%
I’d love to lock up LJ for 8 years, but not for $80 million. Knock it down $20 or $30 mill and we’ll talk. 9 15.52%
$10 million/year makes sense considering he’s elite, but not for 8 years. More like 4-ish. 27 46.55%
Pay the man his fancy contract and then trade him when he’s 30, 31. 3 5.17%
See if you can negotiate it down to a 2 or 3 year deal for relatively little, and if that’s not possible, ta ta LJ. 1 1.72%
Trade. Him. ASAP. He’s worth more now than he’ll ever be. 9 15.52%
Gaz (please explain). 2 3.45%

LJ's Contract

What's your philosophy on this whole matter?

If you're King Carl, do you pay the man (and if so, how much) or trade the man (and if so, when)?

Poll forthcoming.

Tomlinson got his 8 year 60 mil. dollar deal in '04. LT and LJ are the same age. If LJ is asking for 80 mil then it's only because he wants to play else where next year. The salary cap did go up this year but giving that much money to a guy that will most likely be done in fours years is not a good idea.

I would tell him that his ass is being franchised for up to the three year maximum if does not sign a reasonable 3 to 4 year deal. I would tell him I was planning to sue his ass for breach of contract if he held out this year. Then I would tell him to march out of my office until he and his agent were ready to be serious.

if we are going keep giving him all those carries then we don't give him a huge contract because he won't last.

i imagine if Bradie Croyle is the starter than LJ will carry the load again. so ride him hard and them tag and trade him.

btw - you can tag someone and then trade them.

He came in with a really high offer.

It's impossible to tell where this will end up.

Surely Herm wants him, no other RB in the league could have carried our team like LJ did last year, and surely Carl wants him.

But all practical signs point to "this isn't worth it."

While the franchise tag only locks him up for a year, preventing the risk of him still getting paid after he's gone if he gets hurt, it guarantees him a salary cap number of somewhere around $9M for that year.
