Seahawks sign Julius Jones to contract per NFL Network

Just saw it on the ticker. Hmm.......TJ Duckett, now Julius Jones? Why? Is Shaun Alexander going somewhere? They already have Maurice Morris, who is pretty good in his own right.

Overrated? I guess it depends what you are rating him against. But if he never played another down I'd say it was far better than an average career as a rb in the NFL.
A RB is only as good as his line. I cant find it now, but there was a thread posted awhile back showing a poll given to NFL players to vote on the most overrated RB's in the league...I think Reggie Bush was #1, followed by Alexander, LJ, Edgerrin James, and I cant remember the rest. If NFL defenders think he is overrated, its hard to disagree.

Like I said it depends what are you comparing him to??? Overrated probably means that he is being touted as an all pro HOF type back. That came from the media and that probably happened because of his 2005 record breaking season.

At this point I don't think he deserves the HOF. I was just arguing the point that when people say overrated that tends to mean he's not much good and I disagree with that based on his numbers.

I also disagree with the fact that a rb is as only as good as his O-line.

It depends on the runners style. An LJ, Franco Harris and Emmitt Smith type need a good O-line. Walter Payton and Barry Sanders not so much, because of their elusivness they made a lot of their yards based on their talent and not even good O-lines some years.

77 TDs in five year span is pedestrian? I don't think so-that's upper-echelon. Shaun Alexander was a quality back but injuries have caught up with him and now the team is preparing for his departure. That was the whole point I was making, that good teams fix the problem or at least prepare for them before they become in dire need.

I'm really not all that impressed with TDs in today's game.

Offenses have been given so many advantages over the years that TD records for RBs are being set seemingly every other year now.

He has 3 seasons with over 1400 yards or more, and only 4 with over 1200.

1200 yards in a 16 game season is really not all that impressive.

TDs are important, but that isn't the point.

I just don't believe that Alexander would have come close to those kind of numbers of TDs in eras past becasue his offense would not have put him in position nearly as often to score.

Imagine the kind of TD numbers someone like Marcus Allen would have put up if offenses were given the same advantages that Alexander, Tomlinson, and Priest have been fortunate to benefit from.

I recall a lot of Chiefs fans being angry when the Seahawks took him one pick ahead of us. I was one of them. He's had a great career, if he's breaking down, it's a natural progression. He's been a very good back for a very long time.

To me, Jones is a diminutive Herschel Walker w/ the corresponding loss of power.

There isnt much wiggle in Jones, but if he can hit a straight seam & put a 'lil steam on a diving/glancing CB/S...he has True Home-Run speed.

As for Alexander, a solid character guy who puts in the work & usually gets it done...but its like watching paint dry & he's fading to boot.

Jones should be a good pickup if they use him right.

I think shaun is waaay past his prime but he was a great running back for us for 6 years and i certainly appreciate his efforts and character as a Seahawk..

the only back in history to rush for 15 td's 5 years in a row is NOT Pedestrian..

you're probably just pissed because you grew up in the same neighborhood and could never catch him at "tag"

I'm a little suprised at the jones signing though.. I was hoping we could find a way to draft jonathan stewart out of OSU.. Oh well.

Prior to his last two injury plagued seasons he's averaged 4.5 ypc in his career with 5/6 seasons going for 1000+yds and 14+ TDs. That's pretty damn good. It's not like he was just a grinder either. In 5/6 of those seasons he broke runs of 50+ with longs of 88yds.

This is proof of what I have been telling people for a few years. Alexander is extremely over rated and had one fluke great year.

5 seasons in a row averaging over 1000 yards 10+ TD's i wouldn't count as pedestrian and around a 4.5 avg...

edit-saw that the same point was already made, i concur
