That probably is the best move keg(wait until 6/1/02) :)
Draft the best damn DT available and cut Dan 'boo boo' Williams' arse after June 1st.

Okay, who are the players we need to RE-SIGN after this year besides Gonzo and Riley? I thought there was another one...

Sunshine,
There are two more players we need to resign. Donnie and DA. Both players have very high base salaries for next year that need to come down. If this team continues to move in the right direction, I see no reason why all 4 won't be back next year.

We'll probably draft a Corner, or OLB, or WR with the first round pick.
We have a good D-line without with or without Williams. I would like to see him get healthy and return to 97 form. If you figure 10-12 sacks out of Clemmons, 10-12 out of Hicks, 10 out of Williams [if healthy] and 5-6 out of Browning... that's a helluva lot of sacks for our starting D-line. |

I agree with Cannibal.
I thought Steve Martin and Browning looked damn fine in their roles the other night. Williams can get it in the rotation if need be. Hopefully, we'll be able to renegotiate his salary cap figure and keep him on the team as a backup... That way we have more money to sign playmakers next year. I don't want to see them pull the $19mil in dead cap money two years in a row. The WORST of the BS players are gone and that's good enough IMO. Keeping Dan won't kill us. Releasing him might. |

I'd be careful measuring the DTs play in the first quarter last week. Washington has two new guards, one a second year player and the other a free agent they picked up from Carolina. Additionally, their starting center is coming back from a severe knee injury which caused him to miss all of last season.
I thought our play was good (much better than I expected) but they'll need to play like that a couple more times before I'm willing to say we're okay at DT. I did, however, think we might be fine going into the season, because I like both Browning and Martin, but I really think Williams is a key this year. He needs to play in the rotation. |

We need to hold onto Williams and use him as one of our players available in the expansion draft. Todd Collins too. Not sure how many players we'll have to make available but we don't want to be forced into anything and if the Texans take him, all the better for us.

What happens to a player cap wise if we expose them to the expansion draft?
Also, are we liable cap wise if we expose them and they aren't taken? Just curious. |

I'm no expert but I think if a player is taken in the expansion draft, it is up to the team who took him to pay or renegotiate his contract. We would not be held responsible for his salary.
If the player is not taken, they rejoin the team under the same contract as if he had never been exposed. Then we cut Dan Williams. I'm more interested in not having to expose anyone we don't want to. |

I think I'm on a boat, outside the reef on this one. Willing to wait and see, but he is not the type of player to award a long-term contract. I think he needs motivation......

Thanks for the props. I'm sure the Chiefs management has thought of this. It would be interesting to see who we exposed back when Jax and Carolina came into the league. The only player I'm positive of is Bryan Barker. The name Monty Grow sticks in my mind for some reason too. |
