If Carl was the eastern war front, Herm is the western. We will have or V-day soon!

The typical corporate direction would be to make the cut as high as you can or want--GM. Let the new GM make the cuts or decisions as he wants. Owner is not going to cut the coach out, why? Let the new GM do that. Let the GM make the decision to be responsible for. And what owner is going to try to lure top shelf front office only to say, "oh, but you have to keep this coach we got, because I like him." We're not going to get/have a new GM worth his salt for whom the owner won't say, "Here are the reigns. Here's the key."

I don't think the owner sits and thinks, "gee we've just been a couple years into Herm's program, so any new GM I get is going to have to stay with him." That'd be the tail wagging the dog.

I think the firing in Denver shows the owner's viewpoint over any viewpoint you think would matter (competitiveness). Shanahan will be a highly competitive coaching value where ever he goes. Bolen had given Shanny the moon. The last several years without a playoff win notwithstanding, Bolen came up on an issue that was an impasse. I think the reason Bolen said the Broncos needed to go another direction was because there was no higher place Shanahan could go, short of making owner's decisions. And Bolen wasn't going to give him that. No the next leadership setup there won't be as effective as Shanahan at first. But that is not Bolen's principle concern. Being the top dog is.

I will say that keeping Herm around right now just to fire him later is not the usual methodology for the Chiefs. Historically we let players go early in camp to give them a better shot at landing elsewhere. Waiting on Herm just makes it harder for him to try for any of the currently open positions.

Another terribly written KFFL headline.

Makes it sound like Herm thought he was going to be fired.

That would be news.

Herm knows he's gone. Happy dance. No GM worth a damn is going to keep him on board.

I agree, and he was wearing his stocking cap backwards, with the Chiefs logo in the back the next game after the Carl Peterson announcement. He KNOWS he is done, and sealed his fate with "distraction of a new GM", comment.

I don't like Herm, but I think it is wrong to leave another man hanging this long, like they did Gunther.

The squirrel from Tampa Bay worked with Herm ( I know you have heard of Herm and his Tampa Bay days!!) and if any GM kept Herm it would be him.
Say no to Dominick for GM

Not Herm's fault. A white man made him interview.
