Chiefs 2009 opponents determined.

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2008/12...ined_for_2009/

The Chiefs 2009 regular season opponents were officially determined on Monday, as well as opponents for all 32 teams in the NFL. The complete 2009 NFL schedule including dates and times will be determined at a later date. The Chiefs will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2009, a year that will also mark the 50th anniversary of the American Football League, founded by Lamar Hunt. The Chiefs will face four original AFL clubs in 2009.

Kansas City’s schedule for 2009 features six games against five teams that qualified for the 2008 playoffs. In addition to two games against AFC West Champion San Diego, the Chiefs will also face AFC North Champion Pittsburgh, NFC East winner N.Y. Giants, AFC Wild Card qualifier Baltimore and NFC Wild Card qualifier Philadelphia. Kansas City will also host Dallas at Arrowhead Stadium for the first time since ‘98.

Based on Kansas City’s fourth-place finish in the AFC West, the Chiefs will host Buffalo at Arrowhead for the second consecutive season in 2009. The Bills were the fourth-place finisher in the AFC East. The Chiefs will also travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars, based on their fourth-place finish in the AFC South. As always, the Chiefs will again have a home-and-home series with AFC West opponents Oakland, Denver and San Diego. Members of the AFC West will play all four teams in both the AFC North and NFC East in 2009.

In addition to the aforementioned games at Baltimore and at Jacksonville, the other AFC road trip for the Chiefs in 2009 will be a game at Cincinnati for the second consecutive season. In fact, 2009 will mark the fifth consecutive season that the Bengals and Chiefs have squared off. The Chiefs contest with the Redskins will mark Kansas City’s first regular season visit to Washington since 2001 and just the Chiefs third road game against the Redskins since ‘83. The Chiefs will also host Cleveland for the first time since 2003.

I fully expect to suck next year. I hope to be starting a rookie QB, Then we need to add 3 - OL, a WR, a star DE, a couple LB, and a star S, to go on a dynasty run. At least. I saw this year as bidding time to flush the management and to get to another influx of talent. I expected no real improvement though the season and that is what we saw. Next year, I expect what most people hoped for this year - steady improvement through the year, but not contending for anything. I hope Clark isn't too disappointed. This is going to take a while.

About half those games look somewhat winnable, but that's a stretch.

You don't have >30k posts, but I'll gather some lighting bugs in an envelope and have them there via standard mail by Friday.

I've got to save the sunshine for those who truly need it.

Get ready for the QB controversy to start when the new quarterback struggles.

I'm not getting ready for anything but a dynasty at this point. I'm willing to suffer to get there.

I always thought your schedule was at least partially based on how you did last season. Bad teams got weaker schedules, strong teams got stronger schedules in an attempt at parity. Am I completely wrong about that? This looks like another case of "the man" trying to keep us down.

You're right, but only in the case of 2 games per year. Each year, we play:

-Each team in the AFCW twice (6 games)
-Each team in one other AFC division (4 games)
-Each team in one NFC division (4 games)
-One game against the equivalently-ranked team in the two AFC divisions we don't play. (2 games)

So we got the Bengals and Jags as our reward for sucking. Guess you could throw the Browns in there. WOOOOT! Yay us.

I live 10 hours from KC but I will definitely go to see the Cowboys, Giants, or Steelers play at Arrowhead.
Hey, if the schedule is just right I may go see all 3!
New GM, new coach, the #3 selection in the draft.....I've not been this excited about the Chiefs for quite some time.

Schedules have been in place since 2002. No theory of the league keeping us down.
