PC stuck in Power Save?

Help!

My PC won't come on the last couple days.
No lights on my keyboard and when I power on the monitor it immediately goes into standby (amber light).

When I turn on the CPU I can hear the fans going.
Seems that there's no trouble there. Just can't get anything from my monitor.

I tried a different (working) monitor to no avail.
Did the same thing.

Any ideas?

I didn't lose anything he backed up everything somehow. It cost around 200 bucks for parts and for the time the guy spent working on it.

If you just do this step it might start working. I had the same thing happen to my computer and I called the company and this was all that I had to do.

Good thing I bought a laptop 2 days ago.
I'd be sunk.

Even better that most of my hard drive is backed up on my external HD.

I've got a friend who'll probably take a look at it for next to nothing so...
I'm gonna defer to him. I don't know the insides of a PC very well.
I don't wanna **** anything up.

Is your video on the motherboard or separate card. Either way it sounds like your video card is fried. The video card sends the signal to monitor and if the monitor does not receive a signal, it displays no signal.

buy another pci video card, slide it into an empty pci slot

Defenitely try unplugging your computer, but you need to wait a while to turn it back on.

Sounds like one of my guy friends.
That's part of the reason I haven't told him about my issue.
I swear. He's a regular Steve Jobs.

I had an issue like this on a P4 machine. Thought it was a bad on board video card so bought another motherboard. Same problem. Ended up being bad RAM. Why both sticks went out at the same time, who knows.
