I just got a parking ticket for, get this, a street cleaning violation. Apparently from 8-noon on Thursdays during the month of May you can't park on the streets outlying downtown. I had no idea this was the case because, A) there wasn't a sign saying it anywhere B) there were about 25 other cars parked on this street so I assumed it would be okay like it is every other day I've done it for the past 9 months. !%$&#@&$ shit pisses me off. Maybe we could make the rule a little more arbitrary, like on every even day when the moon aligns with Neptune, you can only park in the polka dot zone.

Bah!

Many people without driveways were told ( after thier cars were towed ) that they should have parked in thier yard. Cities ,nowadays especially, will do anything to make and save money.

There are reasons why there are snow ordinances, and its not a money grab.

Crews have a certain amount of time to get the snow off the road, or the public goes bananas. If a plow throws clumps of snow against, or hits a car, there is liability. If the car is plowed in, the public gets outraged.

I think it takes like 1000 unpaid parking tickets to get in trouble.

in Lawrence, the downtown $2 parking tickets are a city-wide joke. at least they were when I was there.

I once got a ticket, as I stood in the 4th floor window of a building some some co-workers on the night shift. You had to plug the meter until 6pm and then it was free. I would have been 5:58pm one night, and we watched a meter-maid stand by my car for 5 minutes, and write a ticket.

Later that night, I said something about "cool hand luking" some meters because I was angry.....

I had a co-worker who was well....pretty much insane, but funny as hell. Our shift ended in the middle of the night and we had left early and hit the bar for an hour (it was karoke night, and there was a house full of adults with down syndrome that drank there and sang karoke, mostly KISS songs)....anyway, as I walked to my car to leave(well below legal limit) this guy rolls by, revving his engine of his old Toyota car and says something about My "cool hand luke" idea. He hops 2 tires up on the sidewalk, revs his engine and takes out about 3 blocks of parking meters, honked his horn, waived and drove on.

See, I actually understand the snow ordinance here because it makes sense. And you pretty much have to know it living here or you're going to the impound lot every other day.

I know the city is counting on people being to lazy to challenge it but I think I'm going to. Unless a Deadliest Catch marathon comes on. Then I'm going to watch it and eat Flamin' Hot Cheetos instead.

When I lived in Buffalo they just made you park on opposite sides of the street on different days. That's how they made room for the plows. There was no snow ordinance and it didn't seem to be a problem.

Make sure you challenge it before the city council, after you talk to the Municipal Prosecutor about the reasoning behind the ordinance and ticket. Take pictures of the area and signage around where the offense occurred and take them with you to the council meeting.
