here are some common phrases from our 10 yr old. "are those onions" "what are these red things" "do i have to eat this green stuff" Yes, they are onions. the red things are tomatoes, and yeah, go ahead and eat the green stuff. years ago i felt bad, but now the kid eats just about everything.

My son eats everything. Sushi, pork, chicken, steak, pasta, you name it. He even eats live ants since watching survivor man once. My daughter, not so much. She is getting better though. Had her eating sushi a few weeks ago. Otherwise, she is steak and pasta.

My kids are completely opposite eaters. One of them will eat just about anything (commonly phrase, "Can I have some more vegetables, please?") except bread and sandwiches. Other than that, he'll try everything once and he's completely into food (we joke that he's going to be a chef). The other one would be happy just eating rolls or bread for every meal and could care less about food in general. He won't even finish sweets that you give him most of the time.

I've tried to keep my daughters diet diverse so that she enjoys a lot of different foods. By two, her favorite food was sushi and at eight, it still is. (She prefers nigri/sashimi over rolls.) Her favorite cheese is Blue Cheese. (A particular preference for the Maytag brand.) I've always let her in the kitchen with me to help and had her active in our garden from an early age. There really isn't anything she won't eat at this point. In fact, she refuses to go to fast food joints because she thinks that the food tastes bad.
Now, my two nephews, who have been basically brought up on hot dogs, cheese pizza and Happy Meals, are a completely different story. At 10 and nine, they will pitch a fit at even a simple salad. I took them to a Greek restaurant this past summer, and both were literally in tears before we got in the door. And amazingly, once they tried the soulvaki, they loved it. But they basically don't want to try anything new and hate anything that isn't prepackaged or wrapped in a McDonalds box. |

My little girl doesnt like french fries which is good. But she loves chicken Nuggets from McDonalds and everything either has to be smothered in catsup or ranch. Italk to her constantly about eating healthy foods and she does pretty good . She always reads the nutrition facts on the labels and I quiz her, "So is this healthy or not healthy". She doesn't like Tilapia but she'll eat a Salmon fillet. She likes all fruit and few veggies. I'll slice up bell peppers for her and she'll eat them especially the red ones.

Actually, this past summer, it was my daughter who asked if we could cook up some beef tongue. She saw it at the butchers and thought it was the coolest thing ever. We did stuffed beef heart the following weekend. She loved both of them. She's already requested rabbit and frog for this summer.

My daughter got a love for steak (with my homemade spicy BBQ sauce), when she was aboot 2 1/2 or so. I'd cook up 3 steaks (for me and her older brothers) and a salmon steak for the Misses. My daughter was only supposed to get a few bites of my steak. By the time she was 3, I was lucky if I got a few bites.
Now it's 4 steaks and a salmon. |

take the bone out and he's good to go. I have no idea how he ended up that way. |

The rule we have for our daughter is that she has to at least try what is on her plate but we won't force her to eat something she doesn't like. There are some things she didn't like the first or second time she tasted it, but eventually she comes around.
I recently had a proud daddy moment when she discovered that she really likes my hot wings sauce. She doesn't like hers on the wings, but she likes to dip them. We're gonna have fun at the Firey Foods Show next month! |

My daughter is defiantly refusing potatoes at the moment. I'm pretty puzzled. I come from a meat and potatoes country family, so this doesn't make any sense to me... I suppose this is payback for how picky I was as a kid...

Do you think there is harm in making them eat it?
