They just made the parents job sooooo much easier. If I was this kids parent, I'd carry a taser with me everywhere I went and if the little bastard starts acting out just remind him what'll happen.

I just had to use anti-freeze...once. Never had anymore problems after that.

COLUMBIA - Local supporters gathered to a sign petition to ban tasers on Thursday.

Only eight hundred signatures have been collected so far, "People For A Taser-Free Columbia" are looking for more. The group needs five thousand signatures to get the issue on the November ballot, then it would be up to the people to vote.

"It's about an unregulated instrument that nobody, law enforcement or not, really knows about the deadliness or the accuracy of that instrument," said Kylar Broadus.

An instrument that has sparked controversy between the police department and citizens. Group members disapprove of police officers' use of the weapon.

"Just because you have it doesn't mean you need to use it, these are big strong guys and often it's someone smaller than them or someone who is not armored, why can't they handle, be a man about it and handle it," said Matthew Smith, a member of the group.

"Having the taser gives that officer one more option to keep him or herself safe, or importantly to keep victims or people standing closeby safe as well," said Officer Jessie Haden.

The police department says taser usage has decreased in the past year. Still, supporters want to ban any type of taser use in Columbia.

Yep, it makes much more sense to wrestle him to the ground with the possibility of breaking bones, etc.

They'll still have the option of shooting him. With luck the guy will only be wounded.

If the kid was going crazy as reported then what's the problem with giving him a two second stun gun zap? Seriously.

Many are the times I wished I had a stun gun to use on some little bastard coming around looking for lawns to mow or pets to wash. Little freakin' pest bastards.
