Definitely not in an old coffee can out in the shed on the corner of the small shelf that you can hardly see because it's tucked under a bigger shelf and even if you did see it you'd just think 'hey, that's just an old coffee can in a shed, there's probably no need to look in there'.

don't call cops, esp if you support him and would have to pay to bail him out, cost of lawyer etc. have serious talk with just you two, maybe do a weekend getaway just you two where you would have the time to explain your feelings in detail to them. JMO

Wow. That's just brazen. I hope he was already stoned before doing something that stupid. Had I done that, my dad would probably still be in jail for his response.

I'd say it's up to you to come down on him like the Anvil of ****ing Death, and it should be his friends place to say "Don't smoke pot where your dad can see you, dumbass!"

I would think that if it's an issue that's affecting his daily life - poor grades, disrespect, holding a job.... then more needs to happen than just a "talk". Don't know if I would call the police though.

But if it's a one, two time deal....just have a talk with him about why and how often.
