Chiefs NFL top 100 and Derrick Thomas.... - Page 2

So the NFL Network recently aired the finale to their ten part series called NFL's top 100 players. The episodes came and went, and finally, last night, the entire series was over with. Over, without any mention of Derrick Thomas.

Now, the fact that the so called experts didn't consider Derrick Thomas a top 100 player isn't necessarily what bothers me. It's some of the names that ARE considered top 100 player OF ALL TIME, ahead of Derrick Thomas.

Michael Strahan for instance. Strahan retired with 141.5 career sacks, 794 career tackles, 4 career interceptions for 2 TD's, 21 forced fumbles and 15 fumble recoveries for 1 TD, plus 1 safety. A total of 20 points scored over a 15 year career. He was also named to the Pro Bowl roster seven times.

While Derrick Thomas had 126.5 career sacks, 654 career tackles, 1 career interception, 41 forced fumbles and 19 fumble recoveries for for 4 touchdowns, plus 3 safeties. A total of 30 points scored in an 11 year career. He was also named to the Pro Bowl roster nine times.

Each player had a moment that will jump out at you.

For Strahan, that moment was his record breaking season of 22.5 sacks. Which, some people think was a "gift" record.

As for Thomas, that would either be his 20 sack season, or his record setting 7 sacks in one game.

Looking at each players body of work, does anyone think Strahan deserves to be in the top 100 while Derrick Thomas does not?

Agree on this. Roaf and Buck not being on are much bigger omissions IMO.

Other noteable O-line omissions: Gene Upshaw, Jim Covert (anchored a good line with the 80s Bears) and, I hate to mention it, but Gary Zimmerman.

That said, Roaf was better than all of them.

Also, love him or hate him, I thought Warren Sapp should be on the list. Was the best DT in the league for nearly a decade.

There are a lot of great players not on the list. Strahan was pretty far down I recall. Considering that Strahan played 4 more seasons, their stats are fairly similar, so you can't really say that it is outrageous. The fumble recoveries, TDs and points scored are kind of irrelevant to me. I don't think you can really compare players of their positions on those kind of things.

I'm sure DT has them all beat in the stat of child support payments owed.

I probably would have had DT on my list, but that's certainly a debatable one. Roaf, however, is not. I have no idea what they were thinking.

I didn't pay much attention to this list because I knew that it would have a lot of questionable selections.

When Jery Rice was named #1, it completely blew that list up for me.

Yes, Rice was a great player, but he rarely had to make a play on a ball thrown to him by either Montana or Young, and that system, along with the QBs, consistently, play after play, game after game, year after year, put him in perfect position to make plays.
