As deputies were questioning the man inside the car, the vehicle came back as stolen over the police radio, according to LaGrange. As deputies were handcuffing the man, he broke loose and ran over the levee and was seen by deputies diving into the river. The man did not resurface, according to deputies.

Karen Reed admitted that her son had problems with drugs and alcohol in the past.

Police have not been able to find the man since he jumped in the river, nor have they confirmed that Reed is the man they are searching for in the river. Coast Guard and Port Authority officials are also searching for the man.
