Troy Polamalu defensive POTY

A big shout out to for exchanging picks with the Steelers, so they could draft him...and we could draft Larry Johnson. I know this as been covered ad nauseam...but it does, if fact, still make me nauseous.

Matthews easily should have won this. Post-season awards have become such a joke. Hell even Tamba deserved to win it over Polamalu.

Julius peppers was invisible for the first half of the season iirc.

He was strong all season and pretty much controlled a few games this season.

The Bears were under the radar because they weren't supposed to do anything, so Peppers wasn't getting a lot of pub. But he was as good to start the season as he was to end it.

He was the only real contender apart from Mathews.

I'm just saying..16 tackles and 2 sacks before their bye week wasn't anything to write home about.

Ya, Palamalu didn't have a super great year like in the past. Definately should have been Mathews or Peppers or even....Hali before Palamalu. Maybe this is a make up DPOTY, has he won it before?

Hali had better stats and a bigger impact than Peppers.

Polamalu says he didn’t deserve award
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 31, 2011, 10:40 PM EST
Green Bay Packers linebacker Matthews talks to the media during his first news conference since arriving for Super Bowl XLV at the team hotel in Irving

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu and Packers linebacker Clay Matthews took to Twitter Monday night in a battle to see who could be classier.

Polamalu, who won the Defensive Player of the Year award Monday (we’re sure), said he didn’t deserve the honor.

“Thanks for the congrats. @jharrison9292 (James Harrsion), @ClayMatthews52, Ed Reed, Julius Peppers way more deserving!”

Heck, Polamalu isn’t sure anyone deserves it:

“Individual awards only have a place in golf and bowling. Too many parts to single out one player in the world greatest TEAM sport!” Polamalu wrote.

Those comments are consistent with everything we’ve every heard from Polamalu. In world of artificial media images, he truly seems like the genuine article.

Not to be out-done, Matthews congratulated his fellow former USC Trojan on edging him out for the award.

“Congrats to [Troy Polamalu] on NFL DPOY. Well deserved . . . Class act and outstanding player. #FightOn.”

Wow. That's a pure reputation pick. I wouldn't have had him in the top 10 this year.
