Robotics coach arrested for child porn

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A West Lafayette man charged with distributing child pornography has been fired by the West Lafayette Community School Corporation.

27-year-old Carl Ross Agnew was an assistant coach for West Lafayette High School's robotics team. Agnew was charged after an FBI investigation that got underway in September 2010. Police served a search warrant at Agnew's apartment in West Lafayette on Tuesday. According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Agnew was sharing images depicting children engaged in sexual activity with adult men. A probable cause affidavit stated that Agnew was sending the images through a peer-to-peer file sharing program under the name of "Brighteyedboy".

The U.S. Attorney said Agnew admitted to police he collected "thousands" of images of child pornography and stored them on his computer.

West Lafayette Community School Superintendent Rocky Killion said Agnew has been fired from his coaching position. Killion said Agnew had limited contact with students in that position. He said the school corporation always does federal background checks on employees before they are hired.

The organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), which sponsors robotics and other engineering competitions, released a statement Thursday evening indicating that Agnew was being banned as a volunteer for FIRST pending the outcome of this case.

Agnew has been taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal Service.

My children are not sharp enough to join the robotics team but I know some students who are in that team. My daughter said that Mr. Agnew is a very well-liked individual. Many students are very upset about this news. Some of them didn't show up to class.

Well…the porn has to come from somewhere, and those kids (depending on their age and consent) could have been harmed physically or emotionally to make it. But none of us know what exactly his “child porn” was, so its hard to judge.

I don't think it is a victimless crime, though. I think that more people looking at it on the internet compel more people to post the images and videos. In my mind the viewers are almost encouraging those who create the videos and photos.
And if you view it, and don't report it to someone as a crime, then I think that furthers your guilt. It's one thing if a person is looking at a variety of websites and happens upon it by mistake, I understand how that might happen. If a person has hundreds of images, and has been repeatedly looking at the websites, then I look at that person as an accomplice to the crime. If they were in the same house where the crime occurred, and watching through a window, would they not be guilty of participating? What is the real difference between that and watching on the internet?

It's already happened, though, not currently happening, and thus, stoppable. Plus, maybe his act of just watching the porn stymies off his desire for actually going out and molesting a kid. Maybe he did the right thing here.

You don't know that. I would imagine that these people often abuse these kids repeatedly over a period of time. And as far as the excuse that watching it stymies desires to commit the act? That's an excuse to sit and watch a child be abused, and possible be subjected to permanent physical and emotional damage? I don't get that.

half of this stuff is quite inappropriate.... also, since i was a member of the robotics team back in WL, i knew Mr. Agnew quite well, i thought he was a good guy but he didn't turn out to be.... i condemn him for that but, half the people that posted on this should post without fully understanding the situation... in other words, u people shouldn't be hatin.

So like, make him wear a sign at Walmart that says "The judge says you should know that I like looking at naked little kids"? Or maybe "A judge wants you to know that I want to diddle your child"? I could see some benefit to that.

No, it's true. The problem is that after they get beaten of killed, they or their family sue the prison, the warden, the guards and anyone else they can name. Which creates a really disgusting situation where taxpayers pay money in damages to a child molester. Prisons normally tell these people to say they're in prison for something else.

Actually most of the time these guys spend their sentence in segregation or on the spacial needs yards with the gays and other child molesters.
