Look at all of the earthquakes in Arkansas recently.

It fits with my theory that New Madrid goes big by the end of May.

I've noticed that Arkansas is having 5-10 earthquakes a day... albeit ones under 4.0.

That New Madrid fault is no longer asleep.

Anyone ever been in an earthquake that they recall really well?

I've always wondered what it was like. I am sure that they come on suddenly, but do you have time to react? Like are there tremors first that warn you to get the hell off off the top floor of a big ass building?

Are you even able to move during it? Or is walking on it similar to trying to walk across a trampoline while someone else is walking? Just curious if you are best suited to get to a doorway and away from things that can fall, or if you should do anything you can to get the fux outside somewhere.

Actually, it will be most of the midwest. The entire region is considered river delta, and is comprised of loose soil. The last New Madrid quakes made church bells ring in Boston, the Mississippi River flow backwards, and hills roll like ocean waves. And there were three of them, all in the range of 8.0 on the Richter Scale or higher.

Nothing in the midwest is built to withstand that. Nearly all communities along the Mississippi will be destroyed - all bridges over the Mississippi for hundreds of miles will be destroyed. The course of the river itself will be altered. All the pipelines carrying all manner of fuel which follow the course of the river will rupture, creating an epic ecolocial disaster on top of everything else. The river itself will be unnavigable due to course changes and debris and toxic to all life. Trade will be completely disrupted going all directions through the midwest, as will the national food supply.

Seriously - I hope I'm long dead before it happens. If it follows the 300 year timetable, the next ones will occur around the turn of the 22nd century.

I was just reading a report that some seismologists are of the opinion that the New Madrid fault(s) are shutting down and that very little movement has occurred along the fault in some time.

I took a Geography of Missouri course in college to fulfill a requirement, and we studied the New Madrid quake(s). One of the assignments was to go to the library and find the old, musty volumes of contemporary accounts of the quakes. It was fascinating reading that has stayed with me for 25 years.
