Why is poker still on ESPN?

I thought this fad died already. For a while, poker was on multiple channels all the effing time. That was a couple years ago. Then I stopped seeing it. Now I turn it to ESPN today, and the WSOP is on. So do they only show the WSOP now days? I like poker, but I don't get how anyone could want to watch people play. Furthermore, it shouldn't be on ESPN.

Also I would assume Poker pays Espn to be on instead of rights fees.

Hey now, damn it! Poker is a mind sport! I don't know how many damn times I've tried to pull off a bluff by going all-in only to have some schmuck take his sweet ass time mucking his hand. That shit makes you perspire!

Yeah I'm not saying poker is the only stupid thing on ESPN. Certainly the spelling bee is another valid complaint. But at least with the spelling bees they werent on every night like poker used to be.

The thing I hate is that Texas Hold 'Em is apparently THE ONLY POKER GAME ANYBODY IS ALLOWED TO PLAY ANYMORE. Seriously, when the hell did that happen? I'd never even heard of it until about 10 years ago, and then it's like every other form of the game just stopped. I remember I was playing poker with my neighbor and some of his douchebag yuppie friends once, I suggested we play another variation and they looked at me like I'd just crapped on the table. How about a little 7 card stud once in a while? Or some low hole wild? Jesus.

Good point.

My assumption is with NO-Limit it allows everyone to get all of their money in at once. Which I assume would intrigue people more.

Omaha and Stud are typically limit games which tend to not appeal to the young crowd poker catered to. The young crowd who wanted to make their life earnings in one hand.

It's because it's a trend for some people. It's a fun game. I like playing it every so often, even online for free sometimes, but really there are some idiots who just play it or watch it because its the "cool" thing now (or WAS...not really sure just how much it has died down).

I see where you're coming from here. I learned how to play 5 card draw and 7 card stud before I even heard about Texas Hold'em, (or even Omaha). I didn't learn how to play Hold'em until about 6 or 7 years ago.

Fwiw, I play because I enjoy the level of concentration needed to play and the ability to keep your cool. If you make the wrong move, you're hosed.

That and it's always a blast knocking grown men out of the game.
