Could Casey Wiegmann Return At Center?

On Thursday, the Chiefs reported to the league office a visit/workout at their facility with former center Casey Wiegmann.

With the season ending injury suffered by Rodney Hudson and the inexperience at the position of his replacement Ryan Lilja, obviously the Chiefs are turning over every stone in an attempt to stabilize the position.

The 39-year old Wiegmann retired after the 2011 season, finishing up a 16-year NFL career where he spent 9 of those seasons with the Chiefs (2001-07, 2010-11.) When he left after the finale in Denver, he had started 175 consecutive games, played 11,162 consecutive snaps and played in 200 NFL games.

One problem in a possible Wiegmann return – he’s lost a lot of weight from his playing days. He was listed last year at 285 pounds and he was really a few pounds under that. Over the last nine months those that have seen him say he’s lost a lot of weight and looked like he was down in the 250-pound range. That’s simply too light to consider playing in the NFL these days.

The Chiefs may have simply been feeling Wiegmann out on a possible return, or maybe they brought him in to give tips to Lilja.

I've said it more than a few times, but Casey has a medialcal issue that makes it hard to put on weight and he would usually start the year around 285-290 max and by years end, he was less than 270 because with working out and practices, he couldn't maintain the weight over the course of the season.

Being he retired, it makes sense that he was closer to his postseason weight because he wasn't doing what it takes to build his bulk back up.

I HIGHLY doubt he is 250, but I also doubt he is more than 265-270 either.

He was probably brought in to ask him to get in a program asap to gain some bulk and try to get up to around 280 (a weight he is effective at) in case we have another injury.

Over the last 3 years, that's why he has faded late in the year.

the problem with Casey is when he's not putting on bulk hes doing crazy workouts and marathons. He had no reason to keep weight so all the cardio he has been doing in the last year he just shed weight.

same with Barry Bonds currently doing all that crazy intense bike riding.

why didnt they do this with the FS position? the CB position? the LBer position? the QB position? the dare i say FB position?

if they approached all these positions like they are now with Center in the offseason and training camp the team wouldnt be in the shit pickle it is.
