Grand Prix of Monaco & Indy 500 - A Day Of Racing

Dear Fellow Racing Fans

Tomorrow morning before the Indy 500 is the Grand Prix of Monaco.

If you only watch one Formula 1 or Indy Car race this year this is the one to watch.

I've been fortunate enough to shoot this race 3 times. I drew the short straw so this year I'm at Indy.

The city of Monte Carlo is beautiful beyond belief and the street race course is spectacular. The sounds in the tunnel are beyond description.

And the city is filled with gorgeous women.

It comes on NBC Sports Network at 0930 CST.

Check it out before the Indy race.

If you love racing you'll love this.

I was there and the entire place as far as the eye could see were thrilled by who won. So your observation doesn't jibe with what I saw. Second, NASCAR instituted that (insane, horrible, embarrassing) gimmick only a few years back. Eventually people will tire of it.

I will go to Monaco the day they're pulling 240mph in front of me. While passing each other.

I think what he's saying is that even the drivers would like to win it competitively.

TK is a fan favorite but I bet even Tony would like to have won that race going flat out.

Oh well that's the way it goes I guess.

A win is a win is a win I guess but I would rather win it hauling ass then by a default.

But that's just me.

F1 cars can easily do 240 mph. But, since they do more than make left turns, they need just a tad more downforce.

F1 cars are obviously superior but I'm not sure they can got those speeds and certainly not "easily". The designs and aero packages are significantly different and even if they weren't the drivers do need oval experience in most cases (Montoya and Villeneuve notwithstanding). On a road course F1 cars would shred Indycars though of course as would those drivers.

Away from the track, the BAR Honda team used a modified BAR 007 car, which they claim complied with FIA Formula One regulations, to set an unofficial speed record of 413 km/h (257 mph) on a one way straight line run on 6 November 2005 during a shakedown ahead of their Bonneville 400 record attempt. The car was optimised for top speed with only enough downforce to prevent it from leaving the ground. The car, badged as a Honda following their takeover of BAR at the end of 2005, set an FIA ratified record of 400 km/h (249 mph) on a one way run on 21 July 2006 at Bonneville Salt Flats.[22] On this occasion the car did not fully meet FIA Formula One regulations, as it used a moveable aerodynamic rudder for stability control, breaching article 3.15 of the 2006 Formula One technical regulations which states that any specific part of the car influencing its aerodynamic performance must be rigidly secured.[23]

my wife loves watching F1. which surprised me.

we ended up watching 90% of the race. didn't make the ending, but sounds like we didn't miss very much.

And they routinely hit 220 mph at Monza, and pull 3 lateral Gs at the Parabolica. As you said, there really isn't much of a comparison between Indy cars and F1.

I'm guessing they could probably win Indy if they designed an oval setup for those cars. Too bad they won't, I don't like watching road races. No passing

They kind of did when F1 raced at Indy.

It's a shame that CART died and Indy lived. Would have liked to see what the CART guys would have come up with.

I think they used about half of it, albeit clockwise (backwards!)
