Since we like to bring over crap from Miami, wouldn't mind seeing them bring over a couple guys from there now. |

We need to fix our FS problem in free agency and invest in the WR spot in the draft.

The only way I'd spend our first pick on a WR is if one of the top 3 available falls to 23. Other than that, or top 2 TE, that pick should be dedicated to improving the pass rush.

Again, pass rush doesn't matter when you can't cover WRs for even 2 seconds after the snap. Secondary needs a big upgrade especially because it truly depends on individuals winning their 1 on 1 battles in coverage. Either that or we need someone to replace Sutton and bring in a better scheme that can hide our weaknesses.

You have two big athletic physical corners that constantly backed away from the line pre-snap. QBs took advantage of that and simply got the ball out before the receivers became engaged by the corners. That is a scheme problem.

In addition, anybody that they draft for OLB is going to be a backup for at least the next two/three seasons. Yeah, that's important, but with the first rounder this season? Ehhhh... People tend to forget that Jackson, while taking quite a bit of shit around here for his career to date, was a very, very good pass defender at the college level for his position. He was every bit as good as either Tuitt or Hageman at the same stage. As well, Bailey was much better this past season under Sutton and Catapano showed he could put pressure on the QB. It's obvious that the Chiefs are in a "we're going to win this thing right now" mode and I can't see them handing the reigns over to a rookie when it's most likely that Jackson can be given a new contract that is somewhat reasonable versus his enormous rookie deal. I would expect something in the DeVito range (3 to 4 years at $4 million per). I think with the "top 3" in the WR position, it's going to be pretty subjective once you get past Sammy Watkins and I would imagine that guys like Odell Beckham would be considered "top 3" for the position for this offense. Basically, what I'm getting at is that Jackson is about as good as you are going to get in either the draft or free agency, while the WR position offers an immediate upgrade to what we have on roster at the entire position. OG and TE (depending upon what condition Kelce is in as it relates to his injury/surgery recovery) would be secondary. I think that the OLB position is pretty good in this draft and they'll be able to get a guy who has some upside. A guy like James Gayle of Virginia Tech or Demarcus Lawrence of Boise State (I didn't realize he declared, but he's an absolute animal rushing the pocket and might be there in the 3/4 round range) would offer a potential quality rush guy to groom behind Hali/Houston. |

As I think about my previous post, I think the primary reason for using the corners in that manner is that there wasn't anyone behind them that Sutton trusted.
I think he was hoping to take away the big plays and mask Lewis deficiency in the back end.

The "Tyson Jackson is a good run defender" needs to die. He was so great against the run, we were what, 25 collectively against the run?
It doesn't matter at this point what he did in college, you have enough data of him at this level to know what he is. Hageman or Tuitt project to be better passrushers from the DE spot than Jackson does at this point. |

Tyson Jackson was a mediocre pass rusher in college.
He projected to be a Ty Warren type, at best.

Admittedly, I'm a huge Hageman fan, but his upside is JJ Watt. Even in the 3-4 defense, where DE's are devalued, a guy that good is an asset.

I don't think Hageman will be there after the Combine. Like it or not, some team is going to jump on his numbers just like we did with Poe (despite Poe having somewhat lackluster tape playing against inferior opponents).

JJ Watt is a top five defensive player in the league, and even JJ Watt coming out of college wasn't the JJ Watt that he is today. I like Hageman, but let's not go bat shit crazy. The guy had 10 sacks, 24 tackles for loss, 57 tackles total, 2 forced fumbles, 1 interception and 10 passes defensed over his four year college career. Tyson Jackson, by comparison, in college, had 18.5 sacks, 27 tackles for loss, 122 total tackles, 2 forced fumble, 1 interception and 18 passes defensed. I know everyone gets all jacked up on the Senior Bowl and Hageman blew it up and said the right shit about being big, mean and violent, but the guy is a work in progress and has a reputation for disappearing in games and not producing on a consistent basis. If he's lucky, he's almost as good as Jackson was at the same stage. Personally, I don't think he is, but he's got a pretty high ceiling IMO. Hageman is not JJ Watt. In actuality, he's not even Tyson Jackson. |
