Chargers go full reerun, guarantee nearly $30m to Donald Butler.

7 years, $48M. That is nearly $7m every year, should Butler hit all his incentives.

$28M guaranteed. Holy monkey.

Keep in mind, this guy DOES NOT rush the passer, and IS NOT an All Pro at his position.

What the hell.

These base numbers mean nothing at all. "If he reaches his incentives"

Do we know how likely to reach these incentives are? He might HAVE to be a multi time probowler to trigger some of those incentives, and then it wouldn't seem dumb would it? Do we have any idea the structure of the contract other than the guaranteed money?

Hell, I just looked it up and apparently it's structured to LIKELY end up being a 3 year deal worth almost 20 million and 12 guaranteed.

So obviously there is wiggle room on SD's end if it doesn't work out.

You guys are weird sometimes... jumping for joy over a move that is really inconsequential.

Butler's not getting those last three years unless he magically turns into prime Ray Lewis. People are overreacting and hoping the contract's worse than it really is.

Just reporting what I saw.

They probably have a clause to void his contract. Honestly it was wishful thinking to imagine they'd give him that contract, being who he is, without there being more to report.

I think it's telling that even Chargers fans are pushing back on the wisdom of giving $30m guaranteed to a non-elite, non-pass-rushing ILB.

Apparently you don't understand what a team option is? Right now he only has $12 million guaranteed for the next three years. After those three years, if his play improves to a level that warrants it, the Chargers can pick up his option and then he'll have $15 million guaranteed over the remaining four years.

Sorry, but it's nowhere near as bad as you'd like it to be.

No matter how much you want him to get all of that money, the charger fan is right and your wishful thinking won't change the reality of this in a few years when they're not on the hook for all 28 million.

Contracts like this are why re-upping Albert last offseason would have been a savvy move. By 2016, the cap is projected to go up nearly 16%. Guys hitting FA in 2014, '15, and '16 are going to make some serious jack.

The Chiefs might have also wanted to work on a Houston extension during the season rather than now, because his price will go up significantly based upon the cap rather than his production.

Are you stupid Direckshun? The money at the end is only guaranteed if the team picks up his option.
