Both are excellent shows.

In David Lee Roth's book Crazy from the Heat. He talks about climbing Everest. You get everything from altitude sickness to frost bite to starving because the food available barely sustains the calories you burn. Huge storm hit and he never made it to the top-but said he would never try that crazy shit again-and that is coming from dave-an avid mountain climber. The side trails on the back of an Ox at 5000 feet sounded pretty scary too. One slip of a hoof....

That was great as well. I can't remember the name of the show but I believe it was discovery channel that had a show about expedition guides and their clients. I will never forget the Harley guy from LA that tried both seasons for the summit and was obviously out of his depth up on the mountain. Pretty cool look at the Everest climbs for a different angle.

There are hundreds of dead bodies on the way up that have been there frozen some since the 1920s no way I go past all those.

Can you imagine climbing it with your wife, to see her go blind and fall, begging for help on the side of the mountain, and you have to leave her in the snow because there's nothing you can do?

As of mid-2011, Mount Everest has claimed the lives of over 216 known mountain climbers. The area above 26,000 feet is called “the Death Zone”, where breathing fresh oxygen from canisters is necessary for all but the most experienced climbers.

The atmospheric pressure is about a third of that at sea level, meaning there is about one third the amount of oxygen to breathe. The air is so thin recovery of bodies has proven impossible. Given this, many victims lay where they took their last breath.

“PLEASE don’t leave me,” the dying woman cried. Two climbers heard the screams of Francys Arsentiev, an American climber who had fallen after succumbing to snow blindness and found herself separated from her husband. They were in the death zone, they were low on oxygen, and the woman was on the side of a steep cliff; carrying her was not an option. The trip just to get down to her would be a risk of their own lives. Despite the risks, the two climbers – Ian Woodall and Cathy O’Dowd – climbed down to her and did what they could to give her assistance.

But it was too late. Ian and Cathy administered oxygen and tended to Fran, but there was nothing they could do. They returned to base camp to seek help and report their findings.

I read this this morning while I couldn't sleep again..it's crazy how many people are up there..it's crazy to think that if someone in your group goes down that you either leave them or die..With my background I just can't see how it's possible to leave someone..I couldn't convince myself to

Sure you could leave them to die, old chum... when you imagine the honor of being the 569th guy to summit, it just makes it all so worth it!

When these kind of guys and rock climbers die, I yawn... you wanted it, you got it.

Touching the void is awesome and related but in the Peruvian Andes opposed to Everest. I watched it a couple of times after hearing about it a couple years ago. Him clawing his way out and making it down after the fall was amazing!

Beyond the Limit was the Discovery channel series I was thinking of. Worth a watch.

I work with a couple guys who like to climb and we were just talking about this. The conversation moved over to K2 and that newer movie called "The Summit" where 8 guys get killed over 2 days. K2 kills 1 climber out of every 4 who reaches the Summit making it deadlier than Everest. No thanks.

I have wondered why they have not set up pulley or rope systems to bring down trash or bodies they can reach. Now it could not go all the way down, but to different sections. If you can operate in space, I think they could come up with a system.
