42% of Americans eventually cremated

Per Forbes:
In 1960 the average cost of a funeral was $706 when only 3.56% of bodies were cremated. Today the average traditional funeral costs between $8,000 and $10,000, and about 42% of people are cremated.

I was just thinking about this yesterday. Is there any place nowadays you can (I'm sure there's an actual name for this) be placed on the raft and have a guy fire a burning arrow to light you up?
because that's what I want.

Traditional burials and funerals are 80% a scam. It's an archaic practice that serves no useful purpose beyond the mourning and memorial...which you can still do anyway. Waste of space, stupid environmentally and nothing but a way for snake-oil salesmen to rip-off grief-stricken families. Lose, lose, lose.

Of course, we are also a society that wastes huge amounts of money on healthcare to extend life by 3-4 months. Hospice and palliative care is a threat to huge profits for healthcare companies though! And, Lord knows, we can't have that...

I really wouldn't care if they just threw me out back and let the dog chew on me, but I wouldn't want the missus to have to clean that up, so cremation it is.

I don't want to be cremated, or buried. Definitely do not want to donate anything to science, this much I assure you. I'm one of those dicks who who will never be an organ donar. Maybe things other than the brain I suppose, but I want my brain to be extracted and preserved, however this can be done. Whether it be frozen, or put in some fluid to maintain it's integrity somehow. There may be a day where they can hook my brain up to a computer, and I can be "revived". The Brain in a vat theory. Maybe not in human form, but still have thoughts and life of some sort. Maybe be given a robot body. Science fiction stuff, but from what I know the brain is basically just electrical impulses that are interpreted into the body. If a computer could interpret these impulses and the brain could be powered somehow (probably the hardest thing), one could conceivably be immortal. Even if the chance of this ever being developed is 1 in a million, I still want to explore it.
