Reading Nothing But Positives About Our D Line
Either our o line isnt so great or our d line is gonna be nasty. Everyone i spoke to at the camp or anything ive read online says the d line looks completely dominant. Poe is a ****ing 340 lbs bear, Bailey looks HUGE at over 300 lbs and Catapano might be one of the leanest 295 lbs guys in the NFL. I heard all these guys are killing it and I heard maybe the MOST impressive of them all is Mike Devito! Hearing he is leaner and faster and has simply destroyed every drill against the o line. I was looking for pics and found these...any good pics of Devito? I'm excited about this defense and i wont lie......just a bit nervous about this o line for some reason but hopefully they prove otherwise.

Or if they don't improve our D will be toasted by mid-season because they are on the field 2/3rds of the game.

These guys are all in shape and well conditioned and play half of a 60 minute game once a ****ing week. The guys they go against play the whole ****ing season as well and nobody pisses and moans about the offensive line being toasted half way through the season because they play all game long once a week. ****ing guys should be full tank by the Super Bowl. Fact is, they suck and they got their ass kicked by a Colts offensive line that rated among the worst in the entire NFL. They were giving up sacks like a Norfolk whore gives up chlamydia but, yet, completely stonewalled the Chiefs defensive line. They better show up this year. All year. Every game. |

Defenses are usually ahead of offenses at the start. If the O-line was dominating, I'd say that there was a big problem in K.C.. Since it's the other way around, it's not a big deal.

True, but there are so many changes on the OL and so many questions, that there's a better than average chance they're not all going to work out. I think the DL is good and the OL is not. The OL is a work in progress that might not end up being very good...

I always equate all the training camp hype to the driving range in golf. Guys can "shoot" a 65 on the range and kill drives all day long there but once they get on the course they suck balls and carry a 25 handicap.

D lines killing it and it sounds like the secondary has been burned a lot. D should be ahead right now.

Its definitely too soon to be certain, but yeah... theres reason for cautious optimism on the line.
If guys like Bailey and Cat take their excellent offseason into the regular season, lookout... throw in solid journeyman depth in Walker getting comfortable in the 3-4 and DeVito upping his game a bit, it does look promising. |

I hope it's true: A strong front seven would help our relatively inexperienced/weak corners.

D line was awesome last year as well. A lot of good it did in the playoffs.

Interesting video of 1 on 1 drill on Star website from Paylor. Catapano & DeVito looked good. Cat wound up on ground DeVito destroyed same guy.

Here is a 7/28 practice reports from Bob Gretz....talks about the linemen at the end
Chiefs Training Camp Practice #8 – 7/28 July 28, 2014 - Bob Gretz | Comments (2) Demetrius Harris is set to catch a pass in Monday’s Chiefs practice From St. Joseph, Missouri It was a defensive day on the practice fields at Missouri Western State University on Monday, as the full Chiefs squad worked together for the fifth consecutive day. The difference between the Chiefs this year and last year at the same time could be seen in the offensive script for the practice. Last year, the team was feeling its way with Andy Reid’s offense. Now, the head coach and his staff are confident enough to begin early work on the two-minute drill just five practices into camp. But the Chiefs offense ran into a few roadblocks that were thrown at them by the Chiefs defense. This was not a stifling effort from the defensive squad, but when it was time to make a play, that stood up and kept the offense out of the end zone. It started with a two-minute drill with the No. 1 offense facing the No. 2 nickel defense. Quarterback Alex Smith drove the offense down to the eight-yard line for a new set of downs. On the next four plays Smith: Threw high to tight end Demetrius Harris in the end zone in a jump ball situation, but they didn’t connect. On second down, he overthrew wide receiver Donnie Avery in the end zone, where he was covered well by cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke The third-down play was going to be another throw into the end zone, but rookie outside linebacker Dee Ford beat the right tackle and was in on Smith for what would have been a sack. Instead, the quarterback got rid of the ball early, throwing where there was no obvious receiver. On fourth down, Smith’s throw to the back of the end zone was too high for tight end Anthony Fasano to reach. That’s when the No 2 defense celebrated. “We had some good work today,” head coach Andy Reid said after practice. “I thought those guys did a nice job. We got 10-plus snaps with each group, so it was good work there.” Later the No. 2 offense went against the No. 1 defense and quarterback Chase Daniel got them close. But his pass into the end zone was picked off by cornerback Ron Parker on a high throw and bad decision by Daniel. Here is more of what we saw and heard on a beautiful Monday morning in St. Joe: – Injuries & Participation: there were six players not taking part in Monday’s practice – safety Sanders Commings (foot), cornerback David Van Dyke (hamstring), running back Joe McKnight (knee), center Eric Kush (sprained ankle), tackle Donald Stephenson (ankle) and wide receiver Junior Hemingway (hamstring). Reid said Stephenson’s ankle was sprained, but that “it doesn’t look like it’s too bad.” He said Commings “was making progress” with his foot strain and he expects Hemingway back for Wednesday’s practice. During the workout, guard/tackle Otis Hudson (back) cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke (hamstring) and cornerback Phillip Gaines (possible concussion) left the field. Reid said none of the injuries was considered serious. Returning to practice were wide receiver Dwayne Bowe (cramps), inside linebacker Joe Mays (knee) and fullback Jordan Campbell (ankle). Left tackle Eric Fisher (shoulder) got some extra snaps in the offense, but he was still not allowed to take his turn in the one-on-one pass protection drill. New tight end Adam Schiltz went through is first practice with the Chiefs. He was claimed on waivers two days ago from the Tennessee Titans. – The injuries along the offensive line had the coaches trying some different answers on Monday. Rookie guard Zach Fulton took significant snaps at center, while starting left guard Jeff Allen got the chance to also play left and right tackle spots. – The NFL officials were back on the field, and they had their yellow penalty flags flying against the Chiefs defense. Just about every part of the secondary had a flag thrown at them for holding or pass interference. – Offensive play of the practice came when quarterback Tyler Bray went deep to his right, throwing to wide receiver Albert Wilson who had bracket coverage with a defender in front and behind. Bray’s throw was right on the money and Wilson went up and got the ball. Not bad for a 5-9 wide receiver. – Defensive play of the practice came with the No. 1 offense against the starting defense. Linebacker Derrick Johnson was floating to his right and was in perfect position to leap and grab an interception on a pass thrown by Smith. Cornerback Marcus Cooper also had an interception. – There was another lengthy session of one-on-one pass rush and pass protection for the linemen. On offense, Allen at both guard and tackle, center Rodney Hudson and rookie guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif did the best jobs. On the other side it was defensive ends that were working inside that really stood out: Mike DeVito, Mike Catapano, Vance Walker and Allen Bailey.
