I've talked about this before, but does Hostetler start to make sense now? Can't be any worse than Collins and he has a better head on his shoulders.

How old is Jeff Hostettler....38 or something?...he would be a stop gap measure until we could get someone else...I think Collins has potential but he sure hasn't shown it...

I dont think Hoss wants to play any more. Ever since his son was injured, he has stated that football isnt that important to him.

Hoss turns 38 this year. I had heard on Fox Sports that he was still interested in playing in a back-up capacity. Just hadn't heard his phone ring yet.
Who knows, Fox misquotes/misrepresents all the time. Credibility, and Fox Sports are not synonomous. (much like Ole' Drew) |

kcred and gaz scooped me. I was going to suggest that you had left out Alford, Willis, Ransom and O'Neal (costing Smith and Parten at least). Also you have 9 DBs listed. Is it possible they'd keep that many? I figure Pat Dennis might well get bumped to the PS, although I think they'll want to hang on to him.
I have heard that Hostetler has been looking to get a try-out for the last while since his son has been doing better. Cleveland was a team of choice for him, but they haven't come calling. FWIW, I think Moon is probably as good an option (or better) than Hoss. With Collins looking average at best, I think Moon should step in at #2 for another year, and then if we have to go to a 3rd string, you could do a lot worse than Collins. |

cormac,
my feeling on the DBs is that most of the non-starters and a couple of the starters also play special teams...plus...although I don't think it will happen...Dishman might be gone...and you may be right about smith and parten...hadn't heard much about o'neal so wasn't sure... ------------------ joe "I want to die in my sleep like my grandfather...Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car." who the **** is out there at the QB position that might actually be worth looking at?...can't believe that any of the QBs that will be cut can be of much use...but who knows...
I like this BB because it bleeps me...so I can just type and ****ing type... ------------------ joe "I want to die in my sleep like my grandfather...Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car." (j. handy) |

joe,
It seems as though there is room for the 9 DBs you mentioned. I am just not real sure what number of players from each position are usually kept. I think we kept 8 DBs last year, but then again we had extra kickers, 4QBs etc..... Now that Graham is gone, Smith might be kept. Who knows. It seems to me from what I have read that O'Neal is a possible keeper also. Finally, unsettling as this is, we need Dishman for one more year. Otherwise we'd have Warfield starting and Gray or Bartee as nickle back. JMO. |

From the kcstar:
Veteran Jeff Smith was practicing with the second team at right guard Monday. His spot on the team would seem precarious because of a practice-field comment made by Cunningham after Smith jumped before the snap. "That's why you're going to be looking for a job," Cunningham yelled at Smith. If Donald Willis can play center, I'd be more than happy with the release of Smith. <P> |

yep, i'm afraid we are stuck with Dishman...it's been mixed reviews this year...one second people are saying he looks great and the next second I'm watching him get burned for a TD...IMO our secondary is the weakest part of our D....at least half of it anyway...

Cormac - I think we kept 9 DBs until we started to bring in the kicking specialists. That was when Juran Bolden was cut.

I guess that's just the way it's going to be with Dishman this year (like last year). Either getting toasted, or returning an INT. We'll just have to grin and bear it I guess.
The secondary does appear weak, but on the flip-side, at least we are looking a youth movement right in the eyes, FWIW. |

I am very pleased with the D...Atkins may get burned a few times and Dish will be off and on...but you are right...the movement is on...Atkins could be special once he gets his coverages down...The line looks great...the LBs are great...Patton looks like he could play for another 3 years...now if our O could just catch up...we might be good....
