Is it time to invest in an Espresso machine...?

Every morning on the way to work, I make my daily pit stop at Starbucks for my usual Black Eye. This cost me $4.01 or $4.29 depending on whether I get a Grande or Vente.

My first question is....would it be a good investment on my part to purchase an espresso machine of sorts and save myself the $25ish bucks a week on coffee? I know I would be making the purchase of he coffee beans in lieu of just going to Starbucks and having it made for me... Just don't know if it would be cheaper to do it myself in the long run.

My second question...I drink solely Red and Black eyes...nothing else. Is there a machine can just make the espresso for me and thats it. I don't need the foam or any of that other Dane McCloud shit.

I am open to recommendations if you know of a good machine that may suit my needs...

Happy Thanksgiving buttholes.

My girlfriend and my mom both have this one. They enjoy it. Also one in the break room and people enjoy it. JPB is right about Breville making excellent ones as well.

Give you an analogy:

You spend $200/week for a hooker. After a year the cost is over $10000. What if you get a wife, would that be cheaper? Of course it would be. But it is not just the same. It won't give you a joy of selection.

Try buying one of these first and see what you think:

http://bodum.bodum.com/us/en-us/shop/detail/11171-16/

Also if you go to say P.T.s coffee in the Crossroads and buy some beans they will give you a ton of pointers.

http://www.ptscoffee.com/

Be forewarned. Their Coffee will make Starbucks a feeble alternative. I don't hate Starbucks. It is just so large that maintaining worldwide quality control results in a loss of quality and uniqueness at any given store.

Try a French press. Cheap and easy. A full French press made strongly will have comparable flavor and caffeine.

I have one of these at my house best investment I ever made. I was drinking 3 $5 lattes a day.

Saved me over $30,000 in the last 7 years.

You can buy a bottle of 50 or 100 caffeine pills for like $2.00, each having the strength of a coffee.

Sounds like you have researched these some. I am assuming it's pretty much one of those "you get what you pay for " things. I have looked some and seen everything from the 40 dollar cheapie to the high end machines that make you cringe when you read the price tag. I drink regular coffee a lot but enjoy an occasional espresso, latte or mocha. How much would a person expect to spend on an espresso machine that will get the job done reasonably well for occasional use? I am not opposed to spending maybe 2 to 3 hundred or so if it will do the job but don't use one enough to justify prices in the 4 figure range for a high end unit.Anybody know of a reasonably priced unit that will get the job done? Or am I wasting my money at this price range?
