The first time you are running through a Doom dungeon and hit a trap door. You fall through and suddenly are burning and you don't know why are from where. You start running as fast as you can and hit more trap doors and run into demons and spiders etc and eventually hit a killing floor and die.

You look down and realize that your hands are sweating. lol

I can't remember the name of an Apple IIc game that I played back in the 80s. It was text-based (no graphics). You played a guy who is being chased by the Soviets. It started on a train. Based on what you enter, it flows through a bunch of scenarios until you reach the border and have to get across. I spent days playing that game.

The first Aliens vs Predator game was pretty tense on the Marine side. Everywhere was super dark, you had no flashlight, you had no night vision, you could only use 4 flares at a time, you die with just about 1 hit, the Aliens were incredibly fast, and the motion tracker noise added a ton of tension.
