Has anyone actually checked on Spagnuolo recently?

Jones allowed the 68-yard TD run by Henry. Also allowed Henry's second TD, the 1-yard TD run. Never even saw Henry on that play, just bull-rushed his man straight back as Henry jogged right by him.
If Jones is going to play end, he needs a lot more coaching up. |

I think it is pretty obvious coaching isn't the issue. it is talent. There's not much Spags can do.
The Dline isn't good, LBs aren't good and CBs aren't good. The **** is a coach supposed to do? Try and coach them up is pretty much all Spags can do but you can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit. |

He could resolve to work that much harder with all the defensive guys who aren't on that list.

The 68-yard Henry TD, he either took the play off, thinking the interior line would take care of things, or he simply didn't know he was supposed to close that gap between himself and the end of the line. By the time he realized he needed to make a play, Henry was even with him, and that's just too late. Would've probably been a 2- or 3-yard gain if Ogbah or Okafor was in there on that play, since they know what they're supposed to be doing right there. Clark would've tackled him behind the line, before he got going, but Clark was on the other side setting the edge to make sure Henry had to run into the interior. |

Why did we fire Sutton if it was a talent issue? Does this regime have any clue about what the **** they're even doing on that side of the ball?

Not really, he even did it earlier in the game; it was his tackle for a loss, IIRC.
And Clark did it in the DEN game, the BAL game a couple times, and the DET game, off the top of my head. His recognition of the play is at that level. Jones is a great DT and pass rusher, and I'll even give him credit that he's not bad against the run most of the time, but his recognition on those two plays were not very good, period. I believe that he just doesn't have enough experience at DE to recognize some situations, rather than he doesn't care. When he realized that Henry was cutting back on that 68-yarder, Jones reacted by charging the gap hard, diving at Henry, and then getting up and racing downfield. If he didn't care, I don't think he'd have gone to all that trouble. He made a couple mistakes that cost TDs, but at least for now, I'm going to give him a pass, because I think they were honest mistakes. But Clark never gets beaten in that fashion. At least not through the first six games that I've reviewed. In fact, if you try a cut back run like that, Clark usually sees it coming and closes the gap before the runner gets there, forcing him back to the inside. |
