Stopping Denver's offense:

Do not overpersue the run!
Denver's O Line zone blocks, which means they let the Dline chose which way they slant and just keep them going in that direction.
Bronco RB's are successful because they are patient and cut back through holes created by persuit.

Run blitz on 1st and 2nd downs. Cheat your safeties up against Griese, their WR's don't have the blazing speed to beat teams deep in the post.

Jam McCaffery at the line. He's a tough S.O.B. who kills zone coverage.

Scoring against the Donks:

Test the perimeters. They have small DE's and quick OLB's that can be run against If you have off tackle plays use them!

Pass down the seams. Their safeties are weak vs the pass.If Gonzo doesn't see at least 8 balls.... you'll lose. Sly should eat them up on a play action post pattern, if called.

Pass on 1st down. Denver's interior is very tough against the run. Trying to over power them will NOT work.

KC might be better off if Griese plays. Ferotte has a bigger arm and I think KC is vulnerable deep. Edwards and Woods are athletic enough to take away their side of the field against Griese's dip dunk style. The lack of speed in KC's RB's will hurt big time. Greg Robinson vs the tandom of Raye/Elvis is a big mismatch in Denvers favor.
Usually I would cheer for KC in this case... but after dealing with obnoxious Chief and K State fans this week... I just don't know.....

That was a pretty shakey call. I think the ref threw the flag because at full speed, it looked like the Raider really tried to spear Eddie Mac. Replays, however, didn't bear that out. The Raiders got a make-up call just a few plays later.

Denver's oline makes it difficult not to overpursue, as the whole idea is to keep defenders moving in the direction they are going. So, not doing it is easier said than done. I'd argue that the key to stopping Denver's running game is disruption by the Dline. You let Denver's RB make their own decisions, you're dead. You get in their face and force decisions, you've got a good shot.

JQ,
I can't moderate this board, but if the Chiefs pull off the upset Sunday, I can guarantee you that no SERIOUS fan on this board will start the "Chiefs are better than Raiders because they beat the Donx". After last season's finale, we know better.
"The way to beat the Donks... "

. . . take a tire iron to Romo, a crowbar to the back of McCaffrey's knees, a sledgehammer upside the head of Anderson, a solid steel-toed boot to the groin area of Griese, a . . . . . . .

Oh, you meant playing football. My mistake.

Seriously, though.

You want to know the *secret* way to beat the Donks?

Sshhhhhh . . . . . tie the shoelaces of the Offensive Lineman together when they're not looking.

Something else about the Raiders vs Donks...McCaffrey gets free in the middle, Raiders come up to tag him cuz he's in position to catch the ball. Raiders see that Greasy has thrown the ball high, so they back off to try and intercept. But McCaffrey is so tall he jumps high and snags the catch, then picks up an extra few yards because our guys have dropped back. Maybe if they kept coming and hit the guy instead of expecting an INT they could have knocked the ball loose.

P.S. Yeah, Jano has missed some kicks (luckily, no game-losers). But our field-position kicking game has gone from worst to best in the AFC. Jano is tops at touchbacks, and our opponents average starting position is the 28 (26?). Thats a HUGE improvement over last season. He'll zero in on those crossbars, no worries.

The only hope for KC winning the game is if they were to score more points than Denver.

Hey Duck: How 'bout that Lechler kid? Doesn't look like he's doing too shabby, either.

(You know...the one Bob Dole was begging KC to draft.)

I wasn't begging for the Chiefs to draft Lechler, but with the need for a quality punter, I would have been happy to see him picked. But at this point, you really can't argue with the picks the Chiefs made.

I'm still scratching my head about KC's "big, slow" RBs who will fail if KC tries to run up the middle.
KC gained 188 yds and 177ds rushing in 2 games vs. Denver last year with Anders, Bennett and Richardson.
Denver is giving up 5 yds a carry on rushing defense.
And finally, if the weather is nasty (cold, wet, windy), this will be a maulball contest favoring KC (straight ahead power runners vs. cutback runners).
KC has scored 83 points in their last 3 meetings with Denver (27.6 ppg) so scoring won't be the problem.
Denver's strength is the short dink pass game and KC will have to stop that.
All in all, the Chiefs look to me to be the better team, but I'm a flaming homer. :^D
