Weird that I like the odds with Guthrie vs. Verlander tonight, but Verlander has been so consistently awful (he was throwing 87 at the start of the game the other night)...

Second game, Vargas vs. Scherzer, is tough to see the Royals winning. Vargas has some competing splits in play... on one hand, he's been lights out since the ASB (2.66 ERA, 6:1 K:BB, 1.22 WHIP). On the other, he has struggled with Detroit this year in one of his three starts against them (two excellent starts, one really bad).

I think it will come down to a rubber match between Shields and Porcello. Porcello is an annoyingly effective sinker ball guy who throws strikes, which the Royals seem to struggle with. Need to focus on elevating his pitch count and getting into the Detroit pen in that game.
Sweep the Tigers! So annoying the game is a 3:10 start today though. I'll be stuck in class, then headed to work, trying to listen on the radio.

Sweep the Tigers, and we're up 5 games with 18 to go.

Get swept, and we're down 1 in the division with 18 to go..

Pressure is on the Tigers in a sense, but this is still the biggest series for the Royals in many, many years. I'm pumped.

That's actually great news considering I was prepared for something season-ending. Nice!

Because of my work schedule, I try to be in bed by 7:30-8pm. In other words, I've seen the first 3 innings of dozens of Royals games. If this team goes to the post season, I don't know what the heck I'm going to do for sleep.

Here's a question: do postseason games featuring a west coast team at home start earlier than a game featuring a central team at home?

Ugh. That's still worrisome to me.

Rotator cuff inflammation is no joke... and if there's inflammation in there, they probably couldn't get a real clear picture of the joint in today's scans.

Could be a partial tear, masked by the inflammation. Hopefully not!

The LDS usually has some day games but the LCS games and World Series are all primetime night games.

I agree. I say, sit him out of as many starts as you can. Hopefully, we can continue to maintain this slight lead so we can rest Duffy.

Just end his season now. There's only 18 games left anyway, and he wouldn't have been in the playoff rotation anyway if we get there. Why on earth push it any further?

If you don't think that Duffy was going to be in a possible playoff rotation, you're delusional or trolling
