When is everyone going to figure out that this is a composite problem? Yelling at the diehards on here isn't going to get the average person to go to the game. As I've said before, this HAS TO START WITH THE UNIVERSITY! The entire atmosphere in the Bram must be changed - tickets, facilities, policies, pre-game show, etc....people have to be motivated to go to the game, especially when the weather is crappy outside during break. Right now it seems between the ticket office crap, the lame pre-game, and the Gestapo policies in the Bram, the university is unknowingly making things more difficult then needed. I don't know how many times I've told people to write constructive letters to the athletic department and officials telling them something needs to be done.
That being said, the crowds will get better and better from year to year. Getting back our basketball heritage doesn't happen overnight. People have to be thinking BASKETBALL and it has to become part of the expectation that you show up (just like football in the fall/winter). |

More qoutes
I think they said about 6800 for attendance last night. I was surprised it was that many. LOTS of empty seats. I hope we get improved play this weekend. Losses at Vegas, Cincy, and College Station would definitely kill some Big Monday buzz. If we somehow go 3-1 or even 2-2 in these games excitement should be high. |

More and this one was funny to me...
This entire thread is ridiculous. Huggs is a professional and knew things weren't going to change overnight. |

Sorry RR, I thought you were sort of agreeing that "Huggs won't be here long." And if you think that's the case, i'd lay a healthy wager on it.
I don't know how old you are but I can tell you that, at one time, Ahearn Field House was the place to be on Saturday afternoon and Tuesday nights in the old Big 8. 11k. Packed house. The fans right on top of the court. And fucking loud. The place would make your ears ring. Lots of folks have claimed that "KSU sold their soul for basketball wins" with the hiring of Huggs. The real story is that KSU sold out their proud basketball heritage with the hiring of Bill Snyder and John Wefald. KSU was about to be booted from the Big 8. Crummy facilities, declining enrollment, and other factors were going to be the hammer that pounded us out. To show you how bad it really was, at one point KSU actually gave their home football games away (to OU and NU) because they could make more on the gate from an away game at those two venues. (Imagine that happening today? Not on your life) Anyway, the hiring of Huggins has actually sparked incredible interest. Attendance for the game last night would have probably been around 3500 last season. But last year, even after 18 years of dogshit basketball, they had a 3 game winning streak which sparked enough interest to sell out the next home game. (which was OK. St.) Of course the team promptly went out and lost 4 straight killing any chance at a good season. But those days are gone. The fans will come. It's a chicken and egg thing. I gave up my tix when they didn't fire Wooly after year 4. If you can't turn a program around in 4 years, you don't deserve anything but the door. But no, good ol KSU (and some fans) were sure we were making progress. Getting to the NCAA is the easiest thing to do men's college athletics. They take 64 teams. If you finished 4th, or sometimes 5th, you still make it To be locked out of that for 10 years is a damn disgrace. To make it into the BCS you have to win the conference.(Unless your the University of NBC at South Bend) Much more difficult. ****, ....I drifted all the place on the this post.... The short answer is: Huggs ain't going nowhere. And good basketball is now an expectation. The fans have always been there. They've just been waiting and waiting and waiting.... |

Nope wasnt talking about Huggins and how long this tenure at KSU will be. I do think you sold your soul though. I am sure you could of hired someone other then Huggins.. Just a bad gut feeling... Also very enlightening discussion.. Props and rep! |

Nothing on the Jayhawk board about Rush except a thread about him scoring 7 pts in 30 seconds last night. Since he played last night, Self must not know about it.

Your post was deleted as well, banyon. They are pretty sensitive about that sort of thing.

It's not like it's an unsubstantiated rumor. It's right there in the court filings for all to see.
