If we keep playing like this, we won't be in a position to draft Stafford. It's not good or bad, it is what it is.

With that being said, a genetic freak like Rak daddy would go a long way towards fixing the ills of this defense. He's not as long as Michael Johnson, but he's fast, explosive, and incredibly strong. Plus, he's taken boxing lessons, so Krumrie will love him with his ****tard slap-fight drill.

There could be worse selections in the 3-7 range where we will most likely choose.

I think he's a better prospect.....he doesn't have Taylors pure stats because he plays in a system where he is scheme disciplined and well coached. Taylor just freelanced and made big plays.

I don't know if he's that either. I think he can be that kind of player, but he hasn't produced at the college level like Taylor did.

If I were to rate the top safeties of the last 10 years as prospects it would probably be:

1. Taylor
2. Mays
3. Landry
4. Polamalu
5. Huff

(I'm talking merely about them as prospects, not how they have produced as pros, otherwise Ed Reed would be higher, and Huff would be taken off the list and burned).

I'm not really talking about physical talent. I'm just not sure if Mays is really an elite playmaker. I haven't seen as many USC games as you, but does Mays really have an impact on the game equivalent to his talent?

Lets be honest here, Mays doesn't have the productive stats because he is on the best and likely most talented defense in all of college football. He plays his zone and stays scheme disciplined instead of freelancing to make huge plays.

It's the same reason Keith Rivers didn't have giant stats. All the players on SCs defense are good so they all trust each other to play their assignment and make the play, no one freelances to make big plays.

He does what he's asked to do, SC plays a cover 2 hybrid, as Pete Carroll is a Monte Kiffin disciple and in that defense the safeties playing their assignments is more important than them freelancing to make big plays.

Which is why LaVarr Arrington is out of the league right now instead of padding a HOF resume.

Which is why I will always tell you that SC defensive players are well prepared for the NFL. All of their guys are very disciplined and do what they are asked to do. They've been well coached in play and scheme discipline since they were 18 years old.

I've never been particularly down on SC defenders. I know we've had debates about how many would start for the Chiefs right now, but I have as much faith in their program as any, and far more than Big X or Big XII schools

And if the Chiefs are picking 6th then everything does change quite a bit.

I will say you haven't watched OSU this year besides the SC game. Freeman has been mediocre at best, and he needs to have a few big games, or he might go in the bottom of the first, maybe even deep into the second round. JL is a textbook player who spends more time in the film room than anybody, and is a perfectionist.

A good option later would be Ellerbe out of Georgia or, a someone else mentioned, Johnson out of Kentucky isn't bad either.

Your entitled to your opinion. He may be undersized but he is very fast, I guess you pick your poison, in regards to him or Rey. Rey is bigger, but much slower, JL will not be a liability in the pass defense as I believe Rey is. Rey hasn't impressed me honestly, besides the pick that Boeckman threw right to him, he did nothing against the Buckeyes, he couldn't catch Pryor that's for sure.
