I have a hard time believing Painter would leave his home state and Alma mater for MU regardless of the contract offered...

Is this the kind of coach you want...? What happens if he finds some success at MU and another program offers him more just after a few years? Revolving door.

I just don't see any reason why Mizzou can't be a better job and win. Good facilities, i know we there is always that fight between ku and texas but still...

If it is Painter, they should hire him within a week so they don't lose out on Porter AND Pressey.

Report: MU contacts Painter as No. 1 candidate By Mike DeArmond - Posted on 27 March 2011 The Purdue site on the Rivals.com network is reporting “we have independently confirmed that Purdue's coach (Matt Painter) has been contacted by Missouri and it has been made known that he's the primary target in their search for a successor to Mike Anderson.” BlackandGold.com even speculated that the price Missouri is willing to pay would exceed the $2 million offered to Anderson before he resigned on Wednesday and took the job at Arkansas. The posting on the Purdue site is the first confirmation – outside the state of Missouri – of what we have been reporting for several days, that Painter is high on and perhaps the No. 1 man, on the list of Missouri athletic director Mike Alden. This also confirms information from a Missouri source close to the Tigers’ athletic department, that Missouri’s interest in painter is returned by Painter. That source told The Star late Saturday night that “MU and Painter are now talking seriously.” Painter is an alumnus of Purdue but is making only a guaranteed $1.3 a season there on a contract he signed last year. In an average year, according to the BlackandGold.com, Painter would make around $1.5 million thanks to incentives. Painter was not immediately available for comment; and at this point there would be no expectation that he would. He is on a vacation with his family in Florida that began Friday. On Thursday he was in West Lafayette, Ind., the site of the Purdue campus. And, on Wednesday he was said to have been working in his office at Purdue. How much to read into the Painter-to-Missouri speculation? The BlackandGold.com story said: “There is enough smoke here to suggest there is fire and that the possibility that Purdue will be looking for a new basketball coach is a real one. “There is extreme confidence being conveyed from the Missouri end of all this and whereas most coaching searches are kept under wraps, it certainly seems like there's been no shortage of information coming out about what the Tiger athletic department is trying to do here. This would seem to be beyond the point of this being a school floating names to recruit through the media or simply appease fans by swinging for the fences.” The Purdue site also speculated that should Painter leave Purdue it could “safely report that Missouri State coach Cuonzo Martin is in the loop on all that's going on between Painter and Missouri, not just because he's been considered a candidate at Mizzou himself, but more importantly because Purdue would be a job the ex-Boilermaker star and current coach of the MVC champion Bears would covet.” A independent source has told The Star that Martin does not consider himself a leading candidate at this time for the Missouri job, and that the focus is on Painter. That's why it's a waste of time to worry about whether Painter will leave. The only coach who would stay at MU for "life" (greater than 5 years give or take a couple of years) is probably somebody like Kim Anderson. Coaches in programs other than the top 5/7 most desirable jobs simply move on either because they've become the hot commodity or because they lost too many games. If Painter brings you 5 years of 'success' (which MU fans have to define for themselves) and then leaves, isn't that better than 5 years of an Asbury/Wooly clone? (hell yes it is.) YMMV, IMO and all that crap. |

Some people are stupid. He is grossly underpaid at Purdue.
