Okay, so there are a ton of posters on here that are eating healthy, trying to eat healthy, or 'thinking' about it.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about holding myself accountable. The more people that I tell about eating healthy, the more people I would let down by not. {TY sensibleshiefsfan}

Fresh, in-season cherries are excellent, but decent ones often run $6/lb around here and that's too steep for my blood.

The one's I get around here aren't that pricey - I don't go too nuts, I get them at the asian market. Tha H Mart. Nothing crazy - but meaty enough - a nice pop - so they're firm - the pits are fairly small - these were 3.49 IIRC. I forget the species I bought.

well you're in Florida now right? they have the roadside places, much like Missouri, Southern Georgia and South Bama.

We used to buy peaches in Florida and Southern Alabama, coming home from Destin - they were always better than Georgia peaches, it was weird that it was like that - but it was true.

Is it possible to feed two adults and two toddlers for $500/month? I have a feeling that we spend closer to $1200/month on food right now, and given the quality of food, it doesn't seem to be worth anywhere near that.

I figured that $400/mo. for groceries and another $100/month for incidentals and a few times eating out could cover it. Or is that a fool's errand?
Maybe. Probably not. I can feed myself for a month at Costco, but it's about $300 just for me. My wife added in is another $100/week. And that doesn't count the food we eat when we go out on the weekends.

Food is expensive, but you'll still be able to save a lot by not going out. Probably not as much as you were expecting.

Trader Joes is still a nice option Hamas, Buck recommended it to me, I'd forgotten about it. It's weird, my bill is always sixty something dollars, I've gone four or five times now. I leave w/ a ton of stuff for 60$. Meats, Baby brocoli, oranges, Cheeses, Chicken, Brussels, Milk - things like that.

Yeah, $400 in groceries (with $500 total) isn't happening. No chance. When you do the math, it seems plausible, but life is a bitch, and it's the "small things" needed to complete a decent meal that end up costing.

I think $600-700 is very doable, however.

You can definitely drop down much less than $1200.

$400 a month might be a little optimistic, unless you're going to just be crazy disciplined.

Eating out is the debbil, though (even though I freaking love it). To put it in perspective: the wife and I can go out for a meal and drinks and easily spend the same I would for a week's worth of groceries.

Yeah, my produce place is basically a "roadside" place except it has a roof and in the middle of a lot of retail stuff. The Georgia peaches, Honeydew and seedless watermelons that I get there are the best I've ever had.
